Mailman

Our poor mail lady is so loaded down with mail since the Thanksgiving Holiday. She says every time we have a Holiday, it puts them about 2 days behind so she doesn't get here till nearly 1:00 instead of at noon. We are on a rural route even though we are in town so we get our mail usually a day later than the other people do.

Grocery Shopping

There is a storm coming so I headed for the grocery store and stocked up. I hadn't done that for quite some time so it was well overdue. We had a bit of snow last night and it made the freeways slippery, so they said. Guess some cars were spinning off the highway. Everyone needs to learn how to drive safely again in winter.

President Bush and Al Gore Reunited

President Bush and Al Gore stood next to each other, sharing uncomfortable grins for photographers and reporters, who were quickly ushered in and out. Baby Kaitlyn

We had our family Thanksgiving dinner yesterday and everything was delicious. The turkey was just about the most juicy turkey I can ever remember eating. We had a good time playing a game and took some 4 generation pictures. Baby Kaitlyn is such a good baby. I got to hold her for quite awhile and she went to sleep on my shoulder. You don't hear a peep out of her unless she is hungry or needs changing. She is so cute but she has beautiful parents so that gives her an advantage.

Scientists Find Fossil of World's Biggest Bug

British scineitst have stumbled across a fossilized claw, part of an ancient sea scorpion, that is of such large proportion it would make the entire creature the biggest bug ever. This is a bug you couldn't swat and definitely couldn't step on. How big is it? It would be bigger than you and at 8 feet long as big as some Smart cars. The discoverers suggests that spiders, insects, crabs and similar creatures were far larger in the past than previously thought. I don't like bugs and spiders to begin with and I sure wouldn't want to run into any of these.

Breakdown Stalls Train Traffic in Northeast

An electrical breakdown snarled train traffic on the Northeast rail corridor for hours on Sunday, delaying trains arriving at New York's Penn Station from Philadelphia and Boston. Damage to overhead electrical wires halted a passenger train about 8:30 a.m. initially blocking New Jersey Transit service and stranding passengers on one northbound train for nearly 2 1/2 hours. Amtrak trains from Boston got backed up too at New York'sPenn Station and northbound trains from Philadelphia and points south got as far as Newark before they, too, were forced to halt. What a mess that had to be.

Turkey and Thansgiving Day

We went to Wal-Mart this morning to return another razor and buy still another one. It was misting when we left and more so when we came home. We got a great 14.4# turkey, that sounds juice and basted with timer there for a good price too. My husband was surprised how heavy it was when he picked it up. We need to go 10 miles tomorrow morning before 8 for a 8:25 appointment with urologist to find out what my husband's PSA is. Every man over 50 should have a PSA blood test taken every year. My husband had prostate cancer in 2000 and had 42 radiation treatments and is doing fine. The fog has been bad for several nights and mornings and hope it isn't foggy tomorrow morning so early.

I think it will be very interesting. I will be riding with our Pastor's wife and the Secretary of our church to the next town. It will be a new experience.

Cars and Drivers

On Friday night and Saturday night the cars are just thick on the roads. And I think all the drivers are nuts and in a big hurry. They make bad passes and put everyone in danger. This one guy went around us only to sit behind at least 10 cars before he could get where he was going. Then we got one ahead of us going 48 in a 55 miles zone and ended up going our way when we got to our hometown and even pulled into the same court where we live. Pretty aggravating.

My Nephew

Our nephew just stopped by to see our home. I was over to his new house a couple weeks ago and he said he would drop in to see us. He delivers our newspaper too and is a good kid. New Baby

Called Texas today and talked with my grandson about his new 9 lb son. He looks alot like him from the pictures we have gotten in email. His folks will be heading down there tomorrow to see the baby and stay with them for a week. I am glad they didn't go today as the winds are ab out 40 mph or more and nearly blow you off the road. I don't think there are any high profile vehicles out there on the road tonight. It is dangerously windy and blowing the heat right out of the house. Glad we have a good furnace.

Not to forget the grandparents who are busting their buttons with pride over their 2nd grandchild in 2 weeks and their first grandchildren. Isn't that something? They had twins to start with and now the twins have babies too and everything keeps doubling doesn't it? Grandpa and Grammy will be off to Texas soon to see that big boy. We are anxious to get pictures on the internet of Emry.

bettercaring - PR O

If you are caring for an elderly relative or perhaps, believe that you will soon be caring for one, then I am sure you have lots of questions. I am sure you will want to research all the registered nursing homes near you to see which ones are recommended by others and this website. There are three things to consider when caring for someone. They would be home care, finances, and residential care or nursing home care. If alzheimers is a factor, it is very important to research those nursing homes that have an alzheimers unit. They are definitely not all the same. They have one in our town that they say isn't any better than ordinary nursing home care but in the neighboring town, just 11 miles away, they have an alzheimers unit that is outstanding and everyone knows about it. By checking into this site, you can find out all the information you need to decide which way you should go with your care. You can read up on news articles that give you healthy care tips, your options, and a forum so that you can have your say too. This website covers all the frequently asked questions that others have asked. This can be a great help to you too, providing you with even more information on better care.

Recycling and Garbage Day

You have to get up awful early in the morning if you want to beat the garbage truck and recycling truck to your driveway. It is amazing how much junk mail and newspapers we pile up. We also gets gobs of catalogs, especially at this time of the year too with the Holidays coming. Toy ads are coming in booklets, rather than just ads. With the China recall of toys, I wonder how sales are going to go this year. You really have to be careful what you buy to be sure there is no lead paint on the toys.

Europe is Set for Slower Growth

The European Commission says that economic growth across the EU will slow in 2008 due to the weaker US economy and problems in global financial markets. HD Professional Stock Videos

Many cinematographers take alot of extra High Definition stock footage than they use and it piles up. And then there are some others who would like to get their hands on some High Definition footage and weren't able to do that. Now there is a way they can do this and benefit both the ones with extra footage and the ones who want it. All they need to do is go to HD Professional Stock Videos. There are some professionals that aren't happy with standard footage so they got together with those that had leftover footage and sold it to those looking for it. In this way, those cinematograthers are able to recoup some of the money spent on that footage and establish a regular income and everyone is happy.

Options Trading Software

Our son has been given stock options as part of his benefits where he works. It is not always so easy to know when and what to sell in order to make money and not lose money. Three guesses and like they say, the first two don't count.

Bedtime

Our little dog, Holly, always lets me know when it is time to go to bed. She comes and sits by me at the computer and makes a funny little sound and then I know she is ready for bed. I have a nice warm comforter folded up and put in a lazy boy in the bedroom and she is ready to curl up in it as soon as we go in there. Sometimes she likes a drink of water first out of a dixie cup. She is a lot of fun.

Onions Cut Heart Disease Risk

I love onions. I love a big thick slice on my vegetable hamburger and I love lots of minced onion in m meatloaf. They are good in chili and anything Mexican, tacos, tostados, etc. Well research now shows that eating a meal rich in compounds called flavonoids reduces some early signs of heart disease. An Institute of Food Research team focused on one of the compounds, quercetin, which is found in onions, tea, apples and red wine. A study examined the effect of the compounds produced after quercetin is broken down by the body and the were shown to help prevent the chronic inflammation which can lead to thickening of the arteries. Hurray for Onions!

Panasonic HDTV

I just heard on the television this morning that we better get ready for HDTV as it will be going into effect in February 2009. That sounds like a long ways off but time flies and it will be here before we know it. We won't be the only ones looking for an HDTV television, there is a market out there of $15.6 billion that will be spent on flat panel televisions. Retailers and manufacturers will be fighting for a piece of that market. But for we, the people, looking for a new flat panel Panasonic HDTV, where do we look? The best place to start is panasonic HDTV. This search engine provides the most accurate shopping results available on the Web. We want to know the best prices, the closest retailer or even where to buy online for the best deal. By checking into this website we can get a place close to home and have the HDTV in our home for the best price. Of course, we want to see the TV in person and compare the different brands and ask questions of a knowledgeable sales person in the store so this is the way to go. I'm sure you are going to be looking for one too so look here first.

Wind and Cold

Wow! The wind is about 40 miles an hour today and is it cold! I got my winter coat out again for the 4th or 5th time and got my gloves out this time too. Boy did they feel good on that cold steering wheel. Had to run to the doctor's for a 6th month fasting blood test this morning early. Then checked in at the co-op to see how much a new battery would be for the car. This one is 7 years old and might as well be thinking about a new one. I hope the wind dies down as it is supposed to be a cold week in the 40's and below freezing at night.

Rose

Rose is my good friend. She is 89 years old and has been through open heart surgery, 4 stents in her heart, a replacement knee and a replacement hip and she is still going. Now she is type #2 diabetic and has to be sure to get her breakfast at a regular time and take her diabetes pill. On Sundays she has a tendency to sleep in so I call her about noon and wake her up and she gets up and eats and then I go over in another hour or two and have tea with her. She has everything in her house in roses, even her watch band is a beautiful rose color.

Astronaut Fixes Torn Solar Panel

In order to repair a damaged solar panel on the International Space Station, A US astronaut has carried out a dangerous spacewalk. The energy-collecting wing developed a rip when it was being unfurled at the port end of the platform on Tuesday. Scott Parazynski rode on the end of an extension boom to install homemade cuff links to the broken section. The repair work will enable the wing to be fully deployed and properly locked in position.

Lab Creates "Supermouse"

Just what we need - another mouse - NOT! But they say the mice were produced to study the biochemistry at play in metabolism and could aid in the understanding of human health and disease. These rodents can run at a speed of 20 meters per minute on a treadmill for up to six hours without stopping. They are metabolically similar to Lance Armstrong biking up the Pyrenees. There is a lot about these mice that will help scientists learn more about humans. My son had some white mice and rats as a school project and that's as close as I want to get to any mice at all.

Auction

A friend of ours is having an auction of all her household goods. She has an accumulation of probably about 45 years and there is a lot of stuff. There are a lot of antiques and many collector items, along with the usual household kitchen dishes, pots and pans, etc. We went down and looked through everything and we could see that there should be collectors who would snap up a lot of these things that go back a lot of years. She is moving to another state to an apartment and her husband died last year so she has no need of a big house and all this stuff but it still has to be hard to sit by and watch a lifetime of collecting things, being sold on auction.

Hollywood Writers Go For Strike

Starting next Monday the US screenwriters' union has called a strike to demand a greater share in royalty payments from DVD's and new media sales. There are about 12,000 members of the Writers Guild of America that are being asked to cease work and set up picket lines. Nearly 20 years ago, they went on strike and it lasted about 22 weeks and disrupted the autumn television season. Studio representatives are hoping for a last minute deal to halt the stoppage. I sure hope they do because I have been looking forward to the new season of programs.

House

Stopped by my nephew's house and took him the Hawkeye News. He is a real Hawkeye fan. I had never been to his house and it is big. He has a nice big kitchen, dining room and living room and a full bath off the kitchen. Upstairs he has two bedrooms, closets and a full bath. There is a full basement too. Two rooms, the first one is very big about half of the basement and the other has a toilet since and shower on one end and shelves and tables for a shop on the other end with the furnace and water heater kind of making a short wall between the two halves of that side. He's got a double garage as he has two cars to make sure one is running and he gets to work ok. He's got a nice yard with it too.

Leaves are Falling

The trees all turned beautiful colors around here and now most of the leaves have fallen off and they are blowing all over. We had a terrible strong wind yesterday that blew everything that moved. Today it is a little better but is very overcast and dreary after a beautiful sunrise this morning. It is going to be bitter cold tonight, in fact, it isn't very warm now. There is an auction in town today and one of our daughters is going to be there and is going to stop by and see us. That will be nice as she lives about 2 1/2 hours away.

Dinasaurs - I Love Them

I just love it when they find really old fossils and now they have found some more in Europe. They found giant hyenas, sabretoothed cats, giraffes and zebras lived side by side in Europe 1.8 million years ago. These creatures' remains were found among a vast fossil hoard unearthed at an ancient hyena den in the Granada region of southeast Spain. It appears that this area was a crossroads where European animals mixed with species from Africa and Asia. At this unique site, they found about 4,000 fossils and among them were also some gazelles, wolves, wild boar and lynx.

Nuclear Plants Plan Unveiled by Egypt

Egypt is planning to build a number of nuclear power stations to generate electricity. They have decided to go ahead with their program because energy security is such an important factor in Egypt's development. They announced plans last year to revive civilian nuclear activities but at the time they spoke of building a single power station. The United States said it will offer its cooperation in the project. US officials insist there is no comparison between peaceful use of nuclear technology by Egypt and Iran's controversial nuclear program.
