Nieces and Nephews
Lori is doing very well after her 2nd bout with breast cancer and has been back to work for two weeks and looks good. Their boys are now 6'3" and 6'1. Zack will be a Senior this year and will be playing football and basketball. Kendall and Deb came without the kids as Caleb is working at Culvers and their daughter, who is 17 already was gone to Chicago to a big wedding. They are driving a beautiful black Cadillac Escalade. Both of them looked just great. Kevin came with his two boys who have both grown a foot too and Michelle came with her boyfriend and Isaiah, who is three and so cute. Danny's son,Jordan is so tall already, I couldn't get over it and Victoria has gotten so tall too. My, how they do grow up.
Dwight and Patty
Dwight and Patty drove 9 1/2 hours from Indiana to be at the birthday party today. Their daughter, Jamie couldn't come as she and her husband are expecting their second baby any minute. Candace and her husband now have a boy and a girl. Jamie will have 2 girls when the baby arrives. Jesse and his wife have a little boy and she just found out she is pregnant and is due in February. That will give Dwight and Patty six grandchildren in three years. They are all within 30 minutes driving distance of each other and Jamie and Candace are only 15 mintes apart so they see each other alot. The whole family gets together once a month which I think is really great. Dwight was just ordained as a preacher 4 months ago. They would really love to visit with their other cousins and miss the family reunions.
Maui Vacation Rental
I have a cousin who has a condo on Maui. I understand it is the most beautiful of all the Hawaiian islands. I would like to find a Maui Vacation Rental so I went to this site and looked into it. They have any size rental you wish, even as large as 3-4 bedrooms on two levels that can accomodate as many as 8 people. They also have Maui vacation packages so that you can plan your entire vacation to get the most advantage out of it. Whether your tastes are to the most luxurious with a gourmet kitchen and tasteful art pieces, or something a little less, they have the accomodations for you. I would like to be near the beach and I found they have a 2 bedroom 2 bath condo that is located just thirty feet from the beach. This website has gone all out to provide you with the finest choices available and it is just up to you to decide which is for you.

Birthday Party
We celebrated an early 81 st birthday today for our brother-in-law. All of his children were there but his oldest son, and alot of the grandchildren. A good time was had by all and lots of good food. All the younger men got together and played a game of football out on the lawn. It was fun to watch them. It seems all the their grandchildren grew about a foot since we had seen them last.
David Hyde Pierce Helps Alzheimers
David Hyde Pierce, the longtime "Frazier" co-star is helping start a campaign against Alzheimer's disease. He saw two family members suffer from it. He said the hardest part in both cases with his grandfather and his dad, were the moments when they understood what wss happening to them. He said it's a disease that takes your brain apart a piece at a time and it doesn't stop until it kills you. More than 5 million people in the U.S. live with the disease, according to the Alzheimer's Association's Champions.
Credit Card
I have been trying to find a low interest credit card and it seems like alot of the major credit cards today are raising their interest rates or raising their minimum payments because so many people are getting in too deep and can't make their payments. Well, I found the greatest Credit Card site to help me out. They have low interest cards and zero percent APR introductory rates on cards that they can search out for you. Often, you can get a balance transfer card by searching through them and transfer your big balances on other cards for an extended time at zero percent interest for 6 months or more. Do your present credit cards have any extra benefits such as free airline miles, or cash back with your purchases. If not, and you would like to have this, you can search with them for the right credit card for you. And with gas prices at an all time high, why not search on their website for a gas card that will save you money every time you fill up? I think we are all missing out on alot of extra benefits just because we didn't know where to look. But now you can find anything on this site having to do with credit cards and I am sure you will be most happy with what you find.

Should Doctor's Prescribe Exercise
How about you? Would you be more likely to exercise if the doctor wrote you a prescription for exercise? Chances are, I wouldn't, but many others might. Two University of Michigan physicians say that it is important for primary care doctors to councel their patients about the benefits of exercise and physical activity. One way would be to show the patient the connection between the patient's sedentary lifestyle and the medical problems he or she may be having. They shared a number of ways doctors could approach the subject of exercise. Exercise is good for everyone whether they have health problems or not.

But also, the campaign of former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, a Republican contender, has confirmed he will be in Clear Lake to be in their 4th of July parade. In addition. parade co-chairman, Ric Jacobs said campaign staffers for GOP presidential hopeful, Sam Brownback of Kansas has contacted the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce inquiring about the parade. No further word has been heard back on this.

News of Pregnant Women's Blood Sugar
They have found that the higher a pregnant woman's blood sugar, the greater the risk to her newborn whether the mother has diabetes or not. These findings may lead to more women being diagnosed with diabetes during pregnancy and given stricter diet advice or medication to lower blood sugar. This research involved more than 23,000 pregnant women in nine countries. It found a strong relationship between blood sugar levels of the women and the rate of big babies and first-time Caesarean sections. The newborns were more likely to have low blood sugar levels and high insulin levels if their mother's blood sugar levels were higher. The problems can lead to obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure later in life. Large babies risk shoulder damage and other injuries if delivered vaginally and lead to more C-sections, which also pose health risks to mothers and babies.
Julian And Sean Lennon Reconcile
Half brothers Julian and Sean Lennon are speaking to each other again. Glad to hear that. I guess this follows an eight year feud with Sean and Sean's mother, Yoko Ono, the widow of the men's father, Beatle John Lennon. It started from comments Julian made about Yoko Ono. Julian's mother is John's first wife, Cynthia. Julian decided it was time to make some changes in his life at age 44 and part of that has been to get Sean back into his life because he loves him so much. Julian contacted Sean's tour manager this year and surprised his half brother backstage after a show in Prague. They hugged and held each other. Julian then joined Sean, age 31, on the tour bus, sleeping on the floor and traveling through Croatia and Slovenia.

Pro Wrestler, Murder, Suicide
Chris Benoit, pro wrestler, strangled his wife, siffocated his 7 year old son and hanged himself. He used a weight-machine pulley to hang himself. Because they found anabolic steroids in the house, investigators want to know if Chris became unhinged by the bodybuilding drugs. They can cause depression, paranoia and explosive outbursts known as "roid rage". Authorities offered no motive for the killings which were spread out over the weekend. They would not disciss Benoit's state of mind either. No suicide note was found. Such a sad happening and seems to be more of this every day.
California Wildfire
A very bad fire is burning near Lake Tahoe, California. It has destroyed over 200 homes and just jumped the fire line and they have had to have another 1,000 people evcuate their homes. This is a fairly populated area and it is certainly not good news for the firefighters. The flare-up is about three miles from where the fire started Sunday near the south end of Lake Tahoe, By Tuesday afternoon, it had consumed more than 2700 acres. This is a very dangerous fire. I hope they will be able to get it out soon before hundreds more homes are lost.
NASCAR Gordon and Johnson Penalized
Once again, NASCAR showed it will not tolerate modifications to its Car of Tomorrow. They levied stiff penalties against Hendricks Motorsports drivers Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and their crew chiefs Tuesday. The four time series champion, Gordon and the defending Nextel Cup champion, Johnson were each docked 100 points. Crew chiefs Chad Knaus and Steve Letarte were both fined $100,000 and suspended for six races because their cars failed an initial inspection at Infineon Raceway.

Venus Williams Advances
Venue Williams beat Russia's Alla Kudryavtseva to reach the second round at the All England Club. She received words of encouragement after nearly every point came from Venus partner and practice cohort, her younger sister, Serena, and they worked. Venus said it is so important to have that support because then she definitely wanted to play better. She wasn't disappointed that she wasn't playing well. Just knowing Serena was there and her mom too was like telling her she could do it and she did. Go Venus!
Paris Hilton Out Of Jail
Paris Hilton left her jail cell for home but not without alot of excitement. Satellite trucks and news people were everywhere. She even summoned a hair salon van and a huge traffic jam angered all her neighbors. Her father said there would be no interviews yesterday so they might as well go home. Paris is planning to do something for God in some way. She may create a half-way house for former ex-convicts like herself but she needs a couple of days to adjust back to her life of fame and celebrity. I think it would be just great if Paris does something good instead of just being a spoiled little rich girl.

Online Courses
It's about time I improved my status in life and got more education to make more money and live without bill collectors knocking my door down or ringing the phone all the time. So I got online and started looking for universities where I could take online courses in the comfort of my home and I found it. It is a fully accredited online university and I could start with bachelor's degree programs of my choice and then, hopefully, continue on to get my master's degree with them also. They also work with companies to improve their employees through four stages, Dream, Design, Discovery and Destiny. They have published an excellent book called "Appreciative Coaching: A Positive Process For Change. They have so much to offer there isn't space here to write all about it but please go online and check it out for yourself if you are striving for more in life.

Antioxidants May Boost Cancer Treatments
All are not in agreement that patients on chemotherapy should take antioxidants. Do supplements like Vitamin E and C, beta carotene and selenium counteract cancer treatment. There is a new review out of 1500 patients and it found that taking antioxidants with chemotherapy actually might increase survival rates, tumor shrinkage and the patient's ability to tolerate chemotherapy. It is not scientifically valid, to discourage taking antioxidants.
Kohl's
Did you know that Kohl's is one of the fastest growing retailers. They show no indication of slowing down its pace anytime soon. Impressive quarterly reports showed first quarter sales up 12% year over year. Their shoppers seem to like their move to higher end fashion trends and higher margin private label merchandise. Slower cost growth and solid sales trends translated into 25% profit growth for the quarter. All regions of the country and all lines of business posted positive comparable sales increases. They have only 834 stores throughout the country, so they have plenty of room to grow. This may be the time to start looking at their stock to buy????

Losing Weight
there are an estimated 20.0 million people who have diabetes in the United States, both children and adults. Research has shown that physical activity can greatly reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, as well as the complications that go with it. Studies show that exercising 30 minutes a day, at least 5 days a week, along with moderate weight loss can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. It can also reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by nearly 60%. See diabetes.org for more information on reducing risks.
Blogging Is A Family Affair
My daughter and her husband have been posting on their blog for sometime now and doing very well. They are expecting to be double grandparents at almost the same time in October when their twin daughter has her baby and their twin son's wife, has her baby. What fun!! Isn't that something? It is very exciting. Check out their blog at Bill and Vickys Blog. They really enjoy posting for PayPerPost and so do I.
Risks of Avandia for diabetics
When a man got a call from his doctor,he was told to stop taking Avandia, which he had taken for 6 years for his diabetes. They say Avandia, a widely prescribed oral medication used to treat type 2 diabetes may increase a patient's risk of a heart attack and possibly death. A scientific analysis said that Avandia increased the risk of heart attack by 43%. Many doctors have been contacting their patients to explain the recent findings and risks and benefits of staying on Avandia, and possible alternatives. Many health care professionals say individuals should contact their doctors and not just stop taking Avandia on their own. This man said his doctor is switching him to Actos, a similar medication in the same class. They also said you can't assume Actos won't have the same side effects as Avandia though. Eighteen to 20 million people have type 2 diabetes. Complications include heart disease, blindness and nerve and kidney damage. Two out of three diabetics will die from heart attack and stroke.

Estrogen Pills
It has been five years after a landmark study scared millions of women off hormones for menopause symptoms. Now a new research suggests the pills may offer some heart benefits for certain younger women who start taking them in their 50's. These women suffered less hardening of the arteries than those who took dummy pills. Doesn't that just take the cake? After scaring everyone half to death, now they find this out. The latest study suggests women who take hormones at the start of menopause seem to gain some health benefits beyond relief of hot flashes. But that is in sharp contrast to women who raise their health risks when they take hormones in their 60's and 70's. This new study is the latest attempt to sort out how menopause hormones affect the risk of cancer, Alzheimers, stroke and heart problems and whether those risks differ by age.

Disney
The Walt Disney Co., in a major strategy shift, said it will stop making lucrative direct-to-DVD sequels of such classic animated films as "Cinderella". The move reflects the growing influence of former Pixar Animation executives John Lasseter and Steve Jobs, who once called the films "embarrassing". The change comes with a shake-up at the company's Disney Toon Studios which included the removal of longtime president Sharon Morrill, who will continue with the company in another capacity.
Nicole Richie Trial Date
Nichole Richie was arrested December 11 for driving under the influence. She has won a delay on her case. She is the 25 year old daughter of Lionel Richie, the pop singer. This week the Superior Court Commissioner, Steven K.Lubell, set a new date of July 11 at the request of a defense attorney. A spokeswoman for the procecutors said that means the trial could start on that date or within the following 10 days. She pleaded not guilty in February to misdemeanor driving under the influence. She also had a DUI in 2003. California code says if convicted of DUI twice within 10 years, a person can be sentenced to between 90 days and a year in jail and have his or her driving privileges suspended. She says she is worried about landing in jail, but is willing to face whaever consequences come her way, and she takes responsibility for what she's done.

$5.5 million was awarded Tuesday to the father of a man who died while wearing a drug patch made by two Johnson & Johnson subsidiaries. The jury said the two companies were both liable in the death of the man in 2003. The Durgesic delivers controlled doses of the powerful painkiller fentanyl. He wore the patch after a car accident for chronic hip pain.
Parkinson's Disease
This such a terrible disease that strikes people of any age. Michael J. Fox and Mohammed Ali are good examples. Now they say gene theraphy shows promise for easing the symptoms of this disease. The first test included 12 people and they had side effects. But now a treatment seemed to improve the symtoms without those side effects. This gene theraphy involved slipping billions of copies of a gene into the brain to calm overactive brain circuitry. It's too soon to draw conclusions but the results are promising and merits further studies.

Birds and Feeders
We got a new finch feeder and it is really different to us, anyway. It is a mesh bag about a foot long with a pull-tie string at the top. It stretches out as you fill it with thistle seed and you can put it on a suction cup hanger on your window or on a tall shepherd hook. We have dozens of Goldfinch this year and they just love it. We can tell they are bringing their babies to it too as it is very funny to see them try to figure out how to eat out of the regular finch feeders. But they can just fly up to the bag and hook their little claws into the bag and eat through the mesh. We have counted as many as 13 Goldfinch eating at a time. It is a beautiful sight.

Celebrate Reno911! DVD
This has just got to be the funniest ever, spoof on cops and robbers and bad guys, that I have ever seen. I just have to get the new unrated dvd release Reno 911! Miami The Movie that is out and watch it over and over again. Those bathing suit style police garb on the police women are a hoot. And the short shorts are hillarious on the cops. All the cops are so funny. I love the scene where they are acting out to the rythym of "bad boys, bad boys, whatcha going to do, whatcha going to do when they come for you". I laughed till my sides ached. Also when all the stuff started falling on them from the explosion they caused, I couldn't stop laughing. You have just got to get this dvd Reno 911! Miami The Movie yourself and have a blast watching it. I played the game "Midnight Shootout" and in the last scene, I blew up most of Miami with the rocket launcher. I blew the tops right off some of the tallest buildings and then the whole town started going up in flames from the beach upward. What a miserable lousy shot I am, but oh, what fun it was.

I am being paid for this post.

Robot Sub Explores Giant Canyon
What willthey think of next? Scientists have begun the first detailed exploration of a vast underwater valley the size of the Grand Canyon. This is just off the coast of Portugal and it has yielded a series of surprises. They are using Britain's ISIS robot submarine. It is van sized. It's high-technology has allowed researchers to view, for the first time, previously hidden features up to three miles deep in the Nazare Canyon. On the sides of the canyon, beneath the overhanging edges of the giant cliffs, they saw cold water corals clinging to the rock. These are a highly active part of the ecosystem, well below the limits of the sunshine. At 12,000 feet deep, they saw the shape of a shark. This was amazing to them also as usually sharks are never found deeper than 1,000 ft. They are going to explore many more places such as this. As one professor put it, less than 5% of the world's sea bed has been surveyed with modern technology, so this is just a start. This is very interesting to me as I have always loved underwater sea shows on television and in movies.

Sudan Most At Risk for Failure
Among the 10 nations in the world most vulnerable to violent internal conflict and deteriorating conditions is Sudan, along with seven other sub-Saharan African countries. The most at risk for failure was Sudan. This is due to the violence in the Darfur region - the main contributing cause. A report showed as evidence that troubles in failing states often cross borders. Violence from Darfur is spilling into the Central African Republic and Chad. The other five African nations most vulnerable were Guinea, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast, Somalia, and Zimbabwe.

Conservatives Win Majority in France
Although the opposition thwarted a landslide victory by capitalizing on the fears of the voters of giving Sarkozy too much power, his party won a clear parliamentary majority Sunday in elections in France. This election was seen as crucial to his vision for opening up France's economy. He plans to introduce rash measures within weeks to make France's sluggish economy more competitive and less protective.
Militants in Lebanon
Two rockets were fired into Israel on Sunday by militants in Lebanon. They caused no casualties and litle damage which was a good thing. But it did raise the possibility of new flare-ups on the volatile border less than a year after Israel's bloody month long war against Hezbollah. The attack was geared at undermining the stability of Lebanon according to the Prime Minister. Hezbollah, of course, denied any involvement.

Prices At the Pump?
Prices at the pump may be going up again as crude oil futures settled at $68 a barrel. This was the highest close since September. The prospect, that gas prices at the pump could stabilize, was raised as gasoline futures extended their rally. But they could rise again after several weeks of lowering. According to analysts, oil prices were boosted by unrest in the Middle East Also, investors moved money from fixed income to commodities because they were encouraged by a lower than expected core inflation figure. Oil futures also followed the lead of gas futures.

Fossil of Giant Birdlike Dinosaur Found
The found a giant birdlike dinosaur fossil in China. This was very surprising. The fossilized bones were uncovered and show the specimen was about 26 feet long, 16 feet tall and weighed 3,000 pounds. The meat-eating tyrannosaurs are about this height. But this dinosaur had a beak and slender legs and very likely had feathers. The theories were that dinosaurs got smaller as they evolved into birds but this one is 35 times larger than its most likely close relation. I love dinosaurs and think anything about them is very interesting.
Australia Backs Dalai Lama Visit
China criticised Australia for allwing the Dalai Lama to visit. The exiled Tibetan Buddist leader is said to always be welcome in Australia. Tuesday, China warned that the visit could damage relations between them and Australia. Prime Minister, John Howard, stressed that his government acknowledges Chinese sovereignty over Tibet. Chine, however, believes its strong views on this very sensitive issue have been ignored by Australia. This situation could very well bear watching in the near future.

Release of Nazi
Anger has arisen in Italian politicians and Jewish groups, at the decision to grant day release to a convicted Nazi criminal who is under house arrest in Rome. Erich Priebke, who is 93, is serving a life sentence for the murder of 335 people at the Ardeatine Caves outside Rome. The 1944 massacre was a reprisal ordered by Adolf Hitler after partisans killed a patrol of 33 German soldiers.

Summer Is Here
Wow! Just like that, summer set in and it is not officially summer until June 21st, I believe. The air conditioner is working overtime and I am so glad we have a good one. We also have ceiling fans in every room and the new one we got in here last week is really great! It really works good and keeps me cool and comfortable while I work. We ran to the store this morning for milk and found they have the main highway blocked off at the railroad tracks and the only way you can go east now is by old Highway 18 to Ventura. We have to go that way to the doctor's office tomorrow to have my hand xrayed. They need to check to be sure that all the bones they put in stayed in place. I had alot of ache Sunday and Monday but it is finally tapering off today.

Ocean's Thirteen
Ocean's Thirteen took the top box office spot. Warner Bros. "Ocean's Thirteen" debuted as the top flick with $37.1 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. This was the third of George Clooney and Brad Pitt's casino heist movies. Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," was the top No. 1 movie the previous two weekends, but it sank to second place with $21.3 million.
Yoko Ono and Son
When John Lennon was shot and killed outside his New York home, I think the whole world went into shock. His son, who was a child at the time, was at home in the apartment and John wanted to see Sean before he went to sleep. Yoko said it was almost like he was afraid he wouldn't get home before his son fell asleep. They were out for dinner for the evening but John decided he wanted to go home rather than out to dinner. They were just leaving the studio when John changed his mind and they went home instead. Yoko and Sean went to visit the place where his father was shot. Yoko is 74 years old now. It does make you wonder if he would be alive today if he had not chosen that time to go back home.

Jeff Gordon Wins Race
With dark clouds hovering over him, Jeff Gordon was put into a spot of making a pit stop due to faltering brakes or continue on. A pit stop would put him behind and rain was closing in. But the dark clouds and rain were about to bring him luck. With Ryan Newman nipping at his heels, and his brakes failing, Gordon was begging for the skies to open and for it to rain. It did begin to rain and the race was red flagged but Gordon showed again that nothing was going to slow him down. He won the rain shortened game, giving him his fourth win this season.
Atlantis Space Station
The crews of the international space station and that of Atlantis greeted each other wuth handshakes and hugs Sunday when the space shuttle arrived at the orbiting outpost. At the same time engineers, in Houston 220 miles below, started evaluating whether a peeled back thermal blanket should be fixed be the astronauts. A decision will probably be made in the next day or two and if the decision is to fix it, then another decision will be made as to whether it should be done during one of the space walks planned.

Monday
Here it is 5 days since my surgery last Thursday. I have been using ice packs off and on and they help. I have cut back on the pain pills and I am not so sure it is good. We baked a delicious meatloaf that my daughter brought. Also have enough baked potatoes to peel and fry up tomorrow night. A lady from church said she is bringing chicken tonight so that will be good too. A friend from Britt called to check up on me this afternoon. I got a card from my aunt today. It's fun to get mail.

Cell Phones Barred
A federal agency on Thursday banned the import of new models of cell phones because they contain semiconductors. These are made by Qualcomm.com and the chips violate a patent held be a rival company, Broadcom Corporation. This was the decision of the U.S. International Trade Commission. The decision represents a compromise between a ban on all phones with Qualcomm chips, as Broadcom requested, and a ban only on the chips themselves, as recommended by an ITC administrative law judge late last year.

Sunday Morning
I am staying home this morning from church with an ice pack on my arm. I very rarely miss church but I am kind of uncomfortable this morning and my fingers are swollen. My pain pills make me sleepy and I do not want to sleep in church. That would be embarrasing. A lady from church brought us porks chops and gravy and mashed potatoes and green beans last night for supper. She also brought real good strawberry pie and cool whip, Sure was good.

My Brother Called
My brother called just now to check up on me since I had surgery Thursday. He took his friend to Tulsa to see her son and his family there. She pays all the expenses so it is like a nice vacation for him and he loves to drive since he was a semi driver for many years. They left at 6;30 Friday morning and got into Tulsa about 5 so they made good time. They are shopping around in a big mall there. He says it is really hot there too. Our air conditioner just kicked in again. My son-in-law put a beautiful ceiling fan in here and it feels just wonderful as this room has a west window and even with the room darkening shade, it gets pretty warm. But it sure feels good with this fan running.

THEY BOTH WORK IN RECOVERY.
Hospital
We have one of the top 100 hospitals in the US just about 25 miles from us. That is where I was yesterday. John and Sandy came and prayed with me and for me before I went into surgery. Larry came and visted with them and Dad while I was gone to surgery. They said they all really had a good visit. Larry says Pam has spurs on her heels and sounds like she will need surgery or something done for them. He called yesterday and I was asleep so he is going to call today. Aaron is working 12 hour shifts with Justin at the new biodiesel plant in Glenville and he has bought a new car. He is still having headaches and backaches from the meningitis and is on 3 meds. Barb said the other day that Lori K. was in the hospital about 2 weeks ago, overnight. Said she doesn't look good at all. Daughter is still living with son at her brother's house most of the time, a few blocks from here. Guess she goes out to the farm for the weekends ;0) Hilda is in town for the summer. Stays in friend's house on north shore in Clear Lake. They have a Lazy Daze muniwinnie. She owns a house in Mason and they come to check up on it every year it seems.
Hand Surgery
Well, I had my hand surgery yesterday. They tell me it took 2 1/2 hours. For the first time in me life, I walked to the operating room. The doctor was even a little surprised when I came walking in. I think we got home about 3;30 after stopping at the pharmacy. The church called and said they would setup people to bring us suppers every other day for a week starting last night. I was glad I told her it would be good to start yesterday because I had not had anything to eat since Wednesday night. If I feel like it, we will go to the fish fry tonight. Cindy brought us hot pork chops right off the grill and a pie pan of cheesey potatoes that were soooo good and a hot apple pie. We shared the pie with a neighbor who never gets anything like that because her husband is diabetic and she does not have anything like that in the house. I have a doctor's appt on Wed to x-ray and see that everything is in place. They had to replace missing bones with cadaver bones.
Roy saw Herman and he looked awful. He went to get out of bed and he couldn't walk. So they had to call 911 and they had to take him down the steps in a wheelchair. That had to be something. They thought first a bone in his ankle cracked or broke but it was a bad arthritic attack.

Repairman
A nice repairman came this morning to fix our sky angel satellite dish. The connections were corroded. He rewired them and it works very well now. He was young and in business for himself from Mason City. It just rained, poured, lightning really hard twice while he was here but he ran to the garage each time, he said, and didn't get very wet. that was good. He had a hooded sweatshirt on. Larry called when we got home from Mexican and said he would be at the hospital in the morning for my surgery. I know he wants to see John and Sandy, probably John especially. Dad was glad as we don't see him much.
There was a baby Robin sitting between the slats on the side of the deck when we got home. Dad thinks it is just learning to fly and he finally went out and pushed him off. He might have been stuck. That way the mother could feed him on the ground. Sure glad the mowing got done yesterday. Pat is going to let Holly out in the morning and then she and Melissa are leaving with the Girl Scouts by bus to Washington DC.

Blair and Merkel Meet Before G8
Prime Minister, Tony Blair, has held talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin ahead of this week's G8 summit. He welcomed a US commitment to become part of a global agreement on climate change. In addition, he said a critical topic would be Africa and sticking to commitments made in 2005 at the Gleneagles G8 summit. This week's gathering will take place in Heiligendamm today. Mr. Blair wants a framework to be drawn up with the "plus five" states - China, India, South Africa, Brazil and Mexico - for action to tackle gobal warming, to replace the Kyoto targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which expire in 2013.
Nations Meet To Protect Wildlife
Elephants and the ivory trade come under the spotlight as the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (Cites) summit opens. Just prior to the opening of the meeting, a committee voted that a limited sale of stockpiled ivory from southern Africa to Japan could go ahead. Some African countries want a 20-year van on trading ivory. The two week meeting will also seek protection for the sawfish, cedar and some corals. China's tiger farming business is being targeted by conservation groups also. The three yearly Cites meetings set restrictions on trade in species regarded as endangered or threatened. Everyone doesn't agree. While Kenya and Mali are seeking a total 20-year moratorium, Botswana and Namibia are seeking to increase exports.
Wedding Favors
So much goes into a wedding now days. I heard yesterday that the average wedding now costs as much as $19,000. I believe that is absolutely outrageous, don't you? I have been trying to help my friend as much as possible to cut back on the expenses of her wedding and in looking through the Internet for wedding favors I found this wonderful site that has a great assortment of favors and you can find cheap ones and also personalized ones. They have wonderful sales of 20% to 50% off a grand selection of favors. They have beautiful silver Heart charm Bracelets, regularly going for $11.95 each, marked down to $8.99. You could get your attendants silver-plated heart jewelry boxes for $7.99 each, which regularly sell for $10.95.You might want to choose something for the men such as sparkling cider mini bottles or wedding day cameras. The cameras would be great for all your guests to have their own pictures of your wedding in remembrance of your special day. Check them out today for lots more ideas.

Satelitte Television
We have a Dominion Sky Angel satellite dish that we very much enjoy. However, over the past year, we have lost the picure so many times and looked at an error screen or retrieving the signal. Today it is pouring down rain, wind is up to at least 40 mph and they finally sent a repairman. He is out there getting drenched and there is thunder and lightning and our little dog is hiding here by me. She really gets scared. I hope he is able to fix it. He seems to know what he is doing out there.
More Limits on Fisheries
The Hague, Netherlands international body overseeing wildlife trade may throw a lifeline to the shark popular in fish and chips and the aromatic cedar tree used for fine furniture and humidors, as it considers new limitations on commercial fisheries and timber. A meeting of the 171 nation convention on International Trade in Endangered Species will tackle commercial issues as never before. They hope to intervene before species' survival reaches a serious level of risk. CITES has until now, stepped in at a far too late stage when the species were already or almost commercially extinct. There is also an ongoing struggle to control elephant poaching and to protect tigers from extinction.

Capella University
This is one online university that is continually adding and upgrading the studies for their students to get their degrees. Capella University has once again led the way announcing many new graduate and undergraduate specializations. One of them is criminal justice. I feel this is a great field to get into and have a son-in-law who is now with the DCI and a grandson who is going into the Highway Patrol or may go into the DCI as well. I would highly recommend Capella University to him as an online university to complete his education and obtain his degree. Psychology is also an area that is seriously lacking in numbers of people going into this field. I heard the other day just how great a shortage there is now for psychologists. I believe you should seriously consider Cappella University and check it out on their website. They will be happy to assist you in any way they can.

Lebanon's Army Pounds Islamic Militants
Islamic militants were hiding in a bombed-out Palestinian refugee camp sunday and Lebanon's army pounded them for the third straight day. Meanwhile fighting erupted outside another camp in the south, stoking fears of widespread violence breaking out in the country. There has been fierce fighting on the outskirts of the Nahr el-Bared camp in northern Lebanon since Friday when the Lebanese army, using tanks and artillery, launched an offensive to drive the Fatah Islam militants from their positions inside the settlement.
"Pirates " Stays On top
Pirates of the Caribbean stayed at the top of the box office with $43.2 million, holding the No. 1 spot at the box office. Disney's blockbuster sequel sank a steep 62.4 percent from its $114.7 million opening a week earlier though. It seems everyone loves Pirates, those wild men who go around pillaging and killing, ravaging other ships. I know I have always enjoyed their stories.
Bill Assists Some Graduates
There are an estimated 50,000 undocumented students in U. S. colleges today. They would be among the ones who would benefit from a part of an immigration bill that the Senate will work on this week.Mariana, age 23 is one of those students. She is finishing up her undergraduate degree at the University of california, Los angeles., and has been accepted to a master's program at Harvard University's education school. Her life is not so simple, however. she insists her first name only, be published because she is illegally in the United states and does not want to be deported to her home in Guatemala. She is worrying about how she will pay her tuition and what kind of work she will get after she is finished with school. Without a work permit, how does she use her degree? This bill may help her that is planned to go through the Senate this week.

Car Bomber in Somalia
There was a roadblock at the home of Somali prime minister on sunday. However, a suicide car bomber drove through it and rammed the vehicle into a wall. They were able get the prime minister to safety but at least five people were killed in the explosion. This was the third assination attempt since he returned to somalia in May 2005. A top government official blamed the assasination attempt on "terrorists linked to al-Qaida."
Is Hurricane Katrina Still Killing?
Even though dead bodies are no longer being dragged from homes in New Orleans, people in the medical profession feel that two years later, people are still being killed by Katrina. Both psychological and physical stress are causing storm survivors to die, along with affects of dust and mold that are still in the dwellings. Financial problems, fear of crime, are also causing health problems for people. A coroner in New Orleans said there was no doubt in his mind that Katrina is still killing the residents. Of course, people with pre-existing conditions are taking it hardest along with the elderly who are just giving up. The ratio has jumped from 11.3 per 1,000 deaths to 14.3 per 1,000, a 25 percent increase. And this doesn't take into account avacuees who died while away from the city and were returned for burial. Sad isn't it? And I think it is one of those things you can do little about, just watch.

Tornado in Eastern Iowa
The tornado in eastern Iowa Friday, destroyed 39 homes and caused an estimated $2.7 million in infrastructure damage. This includes costs for debris removal, damage to parks and recreational facilities and public buildings. It also caused major damage to 28 residences in the area and minor damage to 81 more homes. In Fruitland, population about 1,000, it wiped out 29 homes. Everybody is still in shock, but they are doing cleanup work and what needs to be done. This is so devastating in these small communities that it takes them awhile to recover.

U.S. Warns Over Chinese Toothpaste
US officials have warned consumers to avoid using toothpaste made in China. A shipment was found to contain a poisonous chemical used in anti-freeze.The Food and Drug Administration said it could contain diethylene glycol, which has been blamed for the deaths of at least 50 people in Panama last year. The brands affected are usually sold at bargain rates at retail outlets. The warning comes amid a series of contamination scandals involving Chinese exports to the Americas. On Thursday, Nicaraguan health authorities seized 40,000 tubes of Chinese made toothpaste after they found it contained DEG. Panama, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic had already removed thousands of tubes of toothpaste from store shelves.

Kazakh Leader's Son-in-law Held
Austrian police have arrested the son-in-law of the Kazakh President, who is wanted on kidnapping charges in his country. Amid an escalating family feud, Rakhat Aliyev was sacked as ambassador to Austria on Saturday. The authorities accuse him of ordering the abduction of two bankers. He says the case is aimed at destroying his political ambition. An Austrian court is to rule on Kazakhstan's extradition request. They sent a team of prosecutors to Vienna to secure his arrest. Mr. Aliyev says the charges are fabricated and designed to stop him standing for president.
China Starts New Bankruptcy Law
China has introduced a new bankruptcy law that gives creditors precedence over workers when it comes to claiming the assets of failed companies. Previously they existed in a legal limbo. Their assets could not be released and their debts could not be struck from their creditors' books. Now for the first time, the law allows private Chinese firms, that have failed, to collapse. The change is seen as another step in China's move to a capitalist economy. It also means that failed state enterprises can also now be officially liquidated for the first time. Up till now, they estimate there are about 30 million Chinese people listed on the employment rolls of public companies that are no longer in operation.

Waiting, Waiting, Waiting
Here I sit, waiting and waiting. The satellite disk repairman is supposed to come this afternoon anywhere from noon to 5 and it is already almost 1:30. Don't you hate it when they give you a huge chunk of time to watch for them? I just hope he can find the problem. It is our Dominion Sky Angel Dish and instead of a picture we have this screen showing a big error message. This has been going on for ages, and we finally had it and called in Wednesday. Now it is raining and I sure hope that doesn't stop him from coming and finding the problem. It is so irritating to try and watch a program when it keeps flashing off and on and more off than on. Husbands do not take this type of stress well. It's sort of like hiding the remote or having the batteries go dead on the remote. It's VERY irritating. Wish us luck.
Blair Push For climate Progress
Prime Minister, Tony Blair, has welcomed President George Bush's call for a global warming summit this year, but said more is needed. President Bush said major polluters needed to set targets and "great breakthroughs" in technology, led by the United States in order to allow this to happen. Blair, who was visiting in South Africa, said he wanted to see us go further now from what President Bush laid out. Africa and climate change will be key topics at the G8 summit, he said. All the main players, such as the US, India and China have to take part or the world will be unlikely to make progress according to Blair.
Flowers
Everyone loves flowers. Have a special day coming up in the family? Is it your mate's birthday, or a special anniversary? Not every flower occassion is joyful. Often we find ourselves shopping for a special spray or flowers for a funeral. I have no doubt that if you will check into this website that I found on the Internet, that you will be delighted with all they have to offer. I looked at all the gorgeous flower arrangements for birthdays and there was every kind and color. Beautiful arrangements of roses in delightful vases took my eye. Then I checked on the anniversary items and found a great array of wonderful flower gifts there too. The best part is you can arrange for one day delivery. They will work with your local flower shop or greenhouse or flowers can be sent to you from their own grower's farms anywhere in the United States. Their award winning Customer Service will see to it that your flowers arrive on time and you will be delighted with your order.
Children "Meet New Friends"
This sounds good, but actually it is not good. More children are meeting up with people they first encountered on the internet and their parents know nothing about it. It has been suggested many times that the computer be put in the living room or family room so that your children can be watched more closely to see who they are talking with online. There are too many preditors out there, just waiting to contact the right child and draw them out into a clandestine meeting where they may be raped or murdered. Children are too often impressed by the attention and compliments these preditors give them over the internet. You can't watch your children too closely. Keep them safe, parents. Keep a close check on their computer activities.
Cancer: The Facts
Did you know that one in three of us will be diagnosed with cancer during our lifetime? This disease tends to affect older people but it can stirike at any time. Many young women in their 40's are diagnosed with breast cancer, lung cancer, ovarian cancer, and colon cancer. We have known quite a few friends and relatives who have received this diagnosis. When you are that young, you don't expect to just go in for routine testing for these things. Mammograms, for instance are usually recommended for over age 50 women but now it is starting younger and that is a good thing. There is so much skin cancer too now. They say there were more than 270,000 new cases of the disease in 2001 and that is excluding certain skin cancers. But it is increasing about 1 percent a year. Breast cancer is becoming more common whereas lung cancer is dropping due to the drop in the number of smokers.
Crown Condoms
Would you like to get a supply of condoms on hand, but think it is too expensive? Then you need to check into this website I found on the internet today called Crown Condoms. This is the site for you. They feature all the name brands that you like so much and they also have great discounted prices on all of their condoms. And Shipping? It's FREE. You can't beat a deal like that. That makes your condom order even more affordable. Their goal is to sell you discount condoms at wholesale and retail prices, with a 5 percent discount for repeat customers. They would like to suggest you try Crown condoms. Japan's skinless condoms are 0.046mm, the thinnest latex and best on the market. Professional porn stars choose these because they are light pink and resemble not wearing a condom at all. A pack of these goes for $23.95 and I am sure you will be delighted with them.

Streisand Cancels Concert In Rome
Barbara Streisand has cancelled her concert in Rome next month. This follows protests from Italian consumer groups over high ticket prices but organizers insist the decision was not linked to this outcry. The 15th of the June, concerts were scrapped due to production problems. The event was intended to launch the US star's European tour. They will have a revised itinerary available in the next few days with new dates added. The 65 year old singer and actress is still expected to perform the second concert date on her European tour, in Vienna, on June 21. Barbara will be accompanied by a 58-piece orchestra on her month long European tour, which includes concerts in Ireland, Austria, France and the UK.
Paul Newman To Retire
Paul Newman, one of Hollywood's best-known stars, says he has given up acting at the age of 82. He has been a nine-time Oscar nominee and has starred in more than 50 films. He claims he is no longer able to perform to the best of is ability. He just can't work at the level that he wants to. His films include The Sting, cool Hand Luke and the Color of Money which earned him a best actor Oscar in l987.He says you start to lose your memory and your confidence and he thinks it is pretty much a closed book for him. Born in Ohio, the star has also set up a successful food business. I remember when his salad dressing first came out. I was surprised. I am sure we will continue to see his movies in re-runs for many many years.
A Positive Process For Change
This online university is excited about it's newest book release titled "Appreciative Coaching: A Positive Process for Change". Three faculty members at Capella University co-authored the book. Australian Pub Bars Heterosexuals

The decision has been supported by civil liberties groups. It was said that straight women found homosexual men entertaining but that such attention was dehumanizing. Managers had complained that raucous hen nights and stag parties created a poisonous atmosphere for its gay clientele. You be the judge.
