Suppertime

My husband is busy frying fresh fries for supper. He is very helpful when I am on the computer. He has set the table and gotten almost everything ready. It is really great to have such a good helper. It has been raining a great deal and our little dog is under foot all the time. She is very scared and just shakes. I feel so sorry for her.

Dell Inc. Misled Customers According to N.Y. Judge

According to a New York judge Tuesday, he concluded that Dell Inc. engaged in a repeated false and deceptive advertising of its promotional credit financing and warranties. State Supreme Court, Justice Joseph Terei ordered the computer retailer to more clearly disclose that most customers do not qualify for free financing or get "next day" repair service. That is for sure. New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo sued Dell last year. Teresi gave him until Dec. 1 to identify all consumer claims for third party repairs, new computers or higher interest payments than they would have paid otherwise. I am not sure but I think they should check out their rebate plan. Unless it has improved, it always took 6 months or more to get your rebate when you bought a computer, if you got it at all.

They have dropped their goal of becoming profitable by 2009 and said it will cut production of trucks and sport utility vehicles through the rest of this year. It was a warning shot to the rest of the beleaguered U.S. auto industry, which if facing its worst sales in more than a decade. They didn't rule out layoffs or plant closures in a slumping industry, but said it would release ore detail about its cost cutting efforts in July.

The 22 year old Markova's lawyer, Merrill Cohen, said Lohan had been sitting next to her client. Cohen said Markova next saw her coat on Lohan in a photo in OK! magazine.

Waterford Crystal - Ireland

The Irish government is not going to help Waterford Crystal. Debt-ridden Waterford Crystal faced a renewed cash crisis Tuesday after the Irish government said it would not act as guarantor for any new bank loans. Waterford Wedgwood PLC., parent company of the iconic Irish crystal maker, announced last month that banks would not extend any more credit unless the government guaranteed repayment. The Waterford's hand-cut crystal plant is a tourist attraction in the city of Waterford. The company warned that the plant may have to close unless the government helps secure a $61 million loan. Doesn't sound well for them, does it?

Midwest Auto Recycling

With the high costs of gas and groceries, the last thing you need is a new car payment. You know the car you have now is the cheapest car you can own. By putting some money back into it, even if it needs a new engine or transmission, you will still be money ahead of going out and trading and settling for a big monthly car payment. If this is your problem with your car, then you have come to the right place. Just get on the Internet to this online website midwest auto recycling and see what they can do for you. They specialize in used transmissions and engines. Check out their listing and I am sure you will find your car in their list. If not, they will get it for you. Dow Drops as Oil Climbs Per Barrell

Wall Street took a tumble on Tuesday after oil prices spiked to a record above $129 a barrell. Not only that but a government report raised investor's concerns about the effect of inflation on consumer spending. I think consumer spending has been down since before Christmas. Jobs are uncertain and people are thinking twice before buying things they can get along without. I thought I heard this morning that now oil is $133 a barrell. Gas prices are rising 5 to 10 cents a gallon almost daily or every other day. Where is it all going to stop?

Democrats Get Donation of Fuel from Beer Waste

Here's a new one to me. Some corporations donate money. Others donate services. But Molson Coors Brewing Co. is donating fuel made mostly from beer waste to the Democratic National Convention which will be held in Denver in August. The host committee said the brewer will donate the E85 gasoline that the convention's fleet of vehicles will need. The Golden, Colorado company began converting waste beer to ethanol in l996.

Hoteles

Summer is coming and it is time to take a nice vacation somewhere. Perhaps on a white sand beach on an island in the Pacific or Hawaii or anywhere your heart desires. But when you are Spanish speaking and you to the Internet, you find that most of the websites are in English and that puts you at a direct disadvantage immediately. But no longer. Now you can get on this online website Hoteles and you will find it is entirely in Spanish. You can reserve the best hotels anywhere in the world through them. You probably will also want to arrange your flight and perhaps a rental car too. They have a toll-free number you can call and talk to a Customer Service representative in your own language. Isn't that a great advantage? Now all you need to do is decide where you want to go and get busy with them arranging the best vacation you have ever had.

Target Reports Loss

Target, another big chain, has reported first quarter profits down 8 percent and feels it is due to the economy. They are emphasizing the "Pay Less" part of its "Expect more, Pay Less" slogan. They are the nation's second largest discount retailer. They also said softer than expected sales and higher costs caused the profit decline for the quarter that ended May 3. Consumers are spending less and the company is responding by stressing sale prices more in its advertising. Target reported a profit of $602 million, or 74 cents per share in the latest quarter. This is down from $651 million or 75 cents per share during the same period last year.

Ted Kennedy No Expected to Return to Work This Week

U.S. Senator Edward (Ted) Kennedy is not expected back to work in the Senate this week. After finding out he has a malignant brain tumor that caused his weekend seizure, the Senator was able to walk out of the hospital and go home. Plans for treatment are being made but it has been said he may only have a year to live. This is quite a shock. It seems to me that brain tumors are becoming more and more common. Kennedy is 76 years old.

Baby Stores

This is just what new parents and parents to be need. A website baby stores that has real parent reviews of almost anything. Why take a chance? Why not check out what other parents have experienced and saying about where the best places are to shop for your baby. You can even get advice on the best prenatal doctors to begin with. And after the baby is here, where is the best place to get a stroller, crib and the necessities for your baby. This is the first time parents can take advantage of the many real life parent reviews. It isn't just limited to baby clothes, but also best places to eat that are family friendly. That is a big thing today. I know we have a restaurant that caters to kids and babies and kids even eat free on Tuesdays if they are with their parents. They also have chat rooms, message boards and more so that you can get together with other moms and talk things over. What a great website.

France Admits Secret Contacts With Hamas

Now what do you think of this? France has had informal contacts with Hamas. That is the militant Palestinian group that rules Gaza. Not only that, but Hamas said France is not the only European country to seek it out recently for talks. This acknowledgment of secret contacts between France and a group considered terrorist by the United States and European Union brought swift criticism from Washington. And is it any wonder? We better watch our backs.

Bush Signs Bill re:Stockpiling Oil

President Bush signed a bill to temporarily stop acquiring oil for the nation's emergency petroleum stockpile. However, an aide said President Busy considers it a bad idea. He feels it won't lower fuel costs. Sponsors of the bill said they hoped to lower gas prices. Bush aides said the amount of oil involved was too small. I think we need to drill for oil in our own country. There is a farmer in our state who has discovered oil on his farm and is pumping oil daily. I heard someone else has found it in Montana. They say we are sitting on enough oil in this country to be completely independent of any other country. And why is Cuba drilling for oil jusst 75 miles off our coast? Is anyone out there paying any attention to what is going on?

Home Medical

We both have high blood pressure and the doctor suggested we get a machine to keep track of our blood pressure on a regular basis. If you go on the Internet and check out this online website home medical you will find just such a blood pressure monitor. But that is not all they have. They carry every kind of medical supply for diabetics too. Also they have heart monitors and they have expanded to carry supplies for mothers and babies. Not only that, but you can now get exercise equipment from them also. You can order supplies for first aid and that is a very good idea for everyone. Everyone needs a certain amount of medical supplies on hand but cuts and bruises, especially if they have children. Their site also has blogs and product guides for you to check out. I think you will find them to be all inclusive when it comes to medical needs.

Graduation

We have another family graduation tomorrow. Our grandson is graduating from 8th grade at the Christian School. We are very proud of him. He is the last of three brothers to graduate here so all will be in high school or college next year. It will be a fun day to share with him. It is supposed to be a good weather day too. We had terrible winds yesterday but they have calmed down now.

High Winds

Boy have we got the high winds. If it isn't raining, then the sun comes out and the wind starts blowing. I have some cut up cardboard to recycle and it is going to be fun trying to get it into the recycle dumpster in this wind. It can take off like airplanes. One bad thing about it is that it comes from just the right direction to blow our tulips right over and break them off. They are so extra pretty this year too, both red and yellow peony tulips. Just gorgeous.

Graduation Reception

Headed out this morning for grandson's graduation reception. There are only 2 high school graduations left among 14 grandchildren. Isn't that something? One day they are little, running around playing and the next they are out of school. Then off to college. Then jobs and weddings come next and then the great grandchildren. It all goes too fast. And it starts all over again for the next generation.

Summer Vacation

Where do you want to go on your summer vacation? Our bank is taking a bus to Branson, Missouri and I would just love to go. But the budget won't allow it. But we enjoy the shows so much in Branson. They are expensive but so much entertainment and fun. The bank treats you like Royalty and we always had the very best seats and the best seats at great Dinners too before the shows. Then they would give us treats along the way, both ways. It was so much fun. It has been quite a few years now since we have gone bu it is hard to find $1700 in our budget. I would sure love to win Publishers Clearing House, wouldn't you?

Black Lab Dog

We have a beautiful black Labrador next door. He is so loving and so anxious to be talked to and petted. We take him our leftovers and he just loves that. He is always by the fence waiting for me to pet him or throw his old ball. They have 4 kids next door but they are busy playing and I think he craves more attention. He has a nice fenced in yard and a building to go into in bad weather and a heat lamp in the winter so he is nice and warm. They take very good care of him.

Dentist Day

Today was my dental appointment. We go to a nearby town to an excellent dentist. I had my teeth cleaned and that always feels so good. They were in good shape and I didn't have any need for fillings. They had something new. It was a dental chair that gently massages your back. I could have sat in it all day :0) Just another thing to make going to the dentist enjoyable.

Spring Flowers

It is a beautiful day today. The gorgeous oriole is eating out of the Hummingbird feeder and the Goldfinch are finally back. All the flowers are blooming and it really is pretty along side the house. I put a smaller hanging basket out the other day and the plant seems to be doing ok. It is supposed to grow and hang down over the basket. It has several colors. It will probably attract butterflies.

Look of the Year

Isn't it every young girl's dream to enter a Beauty Contest and win? And wouldn't it be great to be the Model of the Year. Now http://www.lookoftheyear.com is asking for you and anyone else in the world to send them in your photos. You could be chosen, wouldn't that be the greatest? You could win a $10,000 prize too, so send in your very best picture now.

Today is City Wide Cleanup Day

Today is the day the city comes around and picks up all the junk you have been storing in your garage all year. The broken flower pots, the odds and ends of things you haven't used for years. I put out a whole box of Christmas lights and tinsel in good zipper plastic bags so they can keep it that way until Christmas. There are enough lights for several big trees and all around a deck. We just don't have a place for all of them anymore. It is good because people come around with pickups and pick up stuff they can use and it helps other out and gives us more spare room too.

Road Repairs

Winter was really hard on our roads in this area. And now I hear the men out working on the nearby blacktop with all kinds of noisy equipment. My husband is trying to take a nap and I wonder if he can get to sleep with all that noise out there. It looks like they are scraping away part of the blacktop and cement and the dust is really flying. I am sure when they are done it will be nice.

Baskins-Robbins Chain Co-founder Dies at 90

Baskins and Robbins has always been one of my most favorite ice cream stores. Their pralines and pecan ice cream is the best. My husband loves the Wild Mountain Blackberry and we have bought whole big containers of it at the end of the season to put in the freezer and have most of the winter. Although the company advertised that it offered 31 flavors, it has in fact, created more than 1,000 flavors. It's hard to imagine that many flavors, isn't it?

Mowing the Lawn

My husband mowed the lawn today. In the meantime, I searched the garage for stuff to get rid of on city cleanup day. It really looks nice now that it is mowed. I hate to mow and was glad I could get out of it this time. I was busy on the computer too today. It is a beautiful sunny day but the wind is about 30 miles an hour so it makes the 60 degrees feel more like 45.

City Wide Cleanup Day

Wednesday is the day that the city will pick up all the stuff you have that is broken, or don't need any more. You pile it up on the curb and they come along with a skidloader and truck and load it up and haul it away for you. We had a cute little fiber optic tree that was still good and lots of Christmas lights and tinsel. Also ornaments and much more that was still good so hope someone picks them up. It is supposed to rain tomorrow night and we have quite a high wind today. So hope the stuff doesn't blow away.

Groceries

Are you noticing how the prices of groceries are climbing. Even just a loaf of bread has really gone up. I got up early as usual and was at the store shortly after they opened this morning and was back home in no time. Had a short list and no one is in the store, so you can hurry through and get what you need and get home again. I am ready for another busy (I hope) day of posting. It is a beautiful sunny day but very cold. Near freezing last night and not much better tonight they say but at least we don't have snow anymore.

Without A Trace

I look forward to watching "Without a Trace" every week. It is always a challenge to try and figure out what happened to the person who disappeared. I believe the have a great cast of characters on this program. They work together very well to solve the case and during the program, they actually show you a real missing person who needs to be found.

CSI Miami

I love CSI Miami and the star on there and his mannerisms. He always stands kind of sideways and looks at people sideways. A lot of people have asked why he does that but it is just his style he says. Last time I saw the program the gal in the morgue quit to spend more time with her son. She has been on there a long time and I am going to miss her. You get kind of attached to the characters of your favorite programs. I suppose she is moving on to movies or something like that.

Happy Thursday Everyone

It is a beautiful sunny day today and supposed to get up to 61 degrees. I guess this is about normal for our area. It was over 80 the other day and we had terrific rain storms. It blew two semi trucks over on the freeway nearby with wind gusts of 66 mph. We got hard rain but we missed out on the wind and glad of that. Our first oriole showed up yesterday drinking out of the Hummingbird feeder. They are the most beautiful orange and black bird. You just want to stop and stare at them but they fly away pretty quickly. I got a new feeder up just in time as two Hummingbirds came also. One had a white throat and the other a yellow throat. Last year they were green all over so know these are different ones. Also had two Goldfinch so it must be warming up and they are finally coming back. All the birds are late this year. Our tulips, both red and yellow are blooming and violets and lots of other little flowers. It is sure nice to see them in bloom after a hard snowy winter.

Family Visit

Sunday, my sister surprised us and came to church from 50 miles away. What a surprise to hang up my coat and turn around and there she was. She got there earlier than we did and went to Sunday School too. After church, we went to local drive in restaurant and ate inside and called my brother. He came with his friend and the 6 of us had a great visit. After lunch my sister came over and I went over some things on the computer that she wasn't too familiar with. She then dropped off some stuff for my brother at his house and headed for home. It was a beautiful warm sunny day and a good time was had by all.

Flowers

Flowers are a thing of beauty that everyone enjoys. My mother always told me to give her flowers while she was living, and could enjoy them, not at her funeral. I used to call the florist in our home town and have flowers sent to her on every occasion and they were something she didn't get from anyone else and she really enjoyed them. Now there is this website flowers where you can order absolutely gorgeous arrangements that are different from most I have seen. The flowers are outstanding and arranged in such a special way that each flower is accented. Because their flowers are cut and shipped directly from flower farms around the world, they can save you money and provide you with the freshest of flowers. I know that is hard to believe but it is true. You must look into their website and see all the beautiful arrangements. They specialize in European styles which are just indescribably lovely.

South Korea Imports Genetically Modified Corn

Major South Korean corn processors have begun importing genetically modified varieties of the crop because of shortages of conventional corn on the world market since China began limiting its exports. About 63,000 tons of genetically modified U.S. corn arrived in South Korea on Thursday, the first large scale imports for human consumption since the government began regulating biotech crops in 2001. Four major South Korean companies had refrained from importing such corn because of negative perceptions among consumers of genetically modified organisms.

Linens 'n Things Files for Bankruptcy

Bedding and home furnishing retailer Linens 'n Things on Friday filed for Chapter ll bankruptcy protection in a Delaware court. The company named Michael Gries of the restructuring firm Conway Del Genio Gries & Co. as chief restructuring officer and interim chief executive. Current chief executive Robert DiNicola will become executive chairman. It also said it will close 120 stores, almost a quarter of them in California. It seems you hear of store closing every week and hundreds of people losing their jobs and at a time like this when gas is high and groceries are going up. It is really bad.

Postage Stamp Collecting

I was not aware of CTN until today when I checked into this online website Postage Stamp Collecting and found these great sets of stamps. If you are a stamp collector, you simply must look at these. There is an Elvis and a Marilyn Monroe set of stamps that really caught my eye. You Beatles fans and Star Wars fans will find great collections of their stamps, plus a whole lot more. Not only stamps but they have all kinds of great collectibles and they have become very successful retailers in this industry. There is jewelry and coins also and I know there are a great many coin collectors out there. They also can be seen on CSN on TV. It is very entertaining and you can certainly learn a lot from them about collectibles.

Kids' Bins Sold at Lowe's recalled Over Lead

About 84,000 children's storage bins are being recalled because the surface paint has high levels of lead, which is toxic if ingested by children. The bins were made in Taiwan by Magus Industry Co. Ltd. and were sold at Lowe's stores nationwide from March 2007 through February 2008. For more information, customers can call (866) 493-6563 or go to www.cpsc.gov or www.lowes.com. It seems like every week we hear something about childrens' things having lead paint, doesn't it?

ISraeli General Warns of Holiday Attack

The commander of Israeli military intelligence warned that Palestinian militants will try to stage a large scale attack on Israel's 60th anniversary celebration next month. They feel there are attempts to carry out a quality attack of either kidnapping Israeli civilians or a major bombing during the celebrations. This potential attack was compared to the suicide bombing on a Jewish Holiday in 2002 that killed 30 people in a hotel on Israel's coast.Israel is expected to impose strict security measures, including a ban on Palestinians entering the country around the time of Israel's Independence Day on May 8. Among the VIPs expected to attend the festivities is our President Busy.

Midwest Economy Thriving, Survey Says

A survey of business executives in nine Midwestern and Great Plains states suggests their state economies are humming right along despite wholesale inflationary pressures. Creighton University economics professor, Ernie Goss, who oversees the Mid-American Business Conditions Index, said the region is "clearly outperforming the rest of the nation". "Very strong farm income and biofuels production continue to push the regional economy higher," Goss said. "Furthermore, the downturn in housing is having less of an impact for most of the nine state region than for the rest of the nation". I know in our town, many new expensive home are being built and filled. People are selling their older homes and moving into the new ones. Young people just starting out are buying the older homes for less money to start their families in. We have several booming businesses in our town and they are hiring all the time.

Disney Reclaims Shops from Children's Place

The Walt Disney Co. said it has taken over 220 Disney Stores in North America from Children's Place retail Stores Inc. Disney will close about 98 stores in the United States. The move came after the Children's Place subsidiary that ran the stores filed for bankruptcy protection in March. Analysts said Disney's reclamation of just two-thirds of the stores and the elimination of license fees paid to Disney would help make the outlets profitable again. Part of the turnaround would hinge on refocusing on high margin products, such as DVD's and video games, rather than stuffed Disney characters.

World Health Organization - Deadly Virus - Olympics

The WHO says the deadly virus is not a threat to the Olympics. A highly infectious virus that has killed 24 children in China is unlikely to be a threat to the Beijing Olympics, although it is too early to tell whether it has peaked. The death toll from the virus which mostly sickens children, rose to 24 on Sunday as two more deaths were reported in a new province amid heightened efforts by China's Health Ministry to contain it. The outbreak of enterovirus 71 - which causes a severe type of hand, foot and mouth disease - is another headache for the Communist government as it prepares for the Olympic Games, already tarnished by unrest among many.

Teachers Targeted in Post Election Violence

Educators have become targets in Zimbabwe's post election violence, according to a teacher's union. This is threatening a nationwide strike unless the government stops the attacks. The Roman Catholic Justice and Peace Commission also protested political violence and called on the United Nations and African Union to supervise a planned presidential runoff. In a statement to coincide with Sunday services, the Catholic human rights body said the Zimbabwe electoral Commission could no longer be relied on as a "neutral and nonpartisan electoral umpire" after its five week delay in announcing final results of March 29 national election amid witness reports of politically motivated murder, abduction and torture.

Volcano Eruption in Chilean Town

Most of the people fled the Chilean town of Chaiten, after the volcano erupted. It spewed light ash on a nearly deserted village Saturday, two days after its first eruption in thousands of years. No more that 45 of Chaiten's 4500 residents remained in what looked like a ghost town. Its streets, houses, cars and trees were draped with a thick layer of light colored ash. I saw it on the news this morning and it is really erupting badly now and filling the sky with ash. It is a unbelievable sight. In the Bible, God says he is kindling a fire in the bowels of the earth and here is some proof of it as it comes out into the open air of earth.

Home Depot to CLose 15 Store in 10 States

Four years ago, Home Depot Chief Executive Bob Nardelli made the bold prediction that the home improvement retailer could sustain unlimited growth without significantly affecting sales at its established stores. Well he was wrong. Now, under different leadership, with a different growth philosophy and in a troubled housing market, the company put the brakes on some of its expansion plans. They said it would do what was previously unthinkable: close 15 of its underperforming stores. It will be the first time the world's largest home improvement chain has closed stores for performance reasons. This will affect 1300 employees.

Warren Buffett tried to reassure his shareholders on Saturday that Berkshire Hathaway will be fine once he is gone, but the 77 year old billionaire offered few new details of the company's succession plan. Actually,Berkshire vice chairman, Charlie Munger, may have done more to reassure the roughly 31,000 shareholders at the company's annual meeting. Munger said they still have a rising young man here named Warren Buffett to which Buffett joked that everyone seems young to the 84 year old Munger.

Investment Scam in California

Federal authorities arrested a man accused of running an investment scheme that netted more than $25 million by targeting Christian investors nationwide. John G. Irvin, age 61, of Mission Viejo, was arrested Friday on a charge of wire fraud. He later appeared in federal court, where he was ordered held on $1 million bail. Ervin was named in a criminal complaint filed in federal court. The same day, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission filed lawsuits against him and his company, Safevest LLC, and obtained federal orders freezing their assets. He used his company, Safevest, to persuade victims to invest in a fake commodity futures trading program. He guaranteed them up to one percent in returns each day.

Goldfinch, Hummingbirds and more

We had to get a new hummingbird feeder this morning as the old one was leaking the syrup right out of it. And the wind was blowing so hard the last few days that it blows the syrup out too. I put the new one up this morning and there was a little green hummingbird on it about noon. That is the first one we have seen. We have only seen 2 goldfinch so far. It is funny that the birds are not returning as early this year as they usually do. By now we should have feeders full of them. It is strange. We also had to seed the grass where it froze out last winter or the landlord ripped it out moving snow. We had so much snow this year.

They had quite a bit to say about him, none of it flattering.
