Celebrating My Birthday
I have been celebrating my Birthday since last Saturday. We had a delicious BBQ with family and had a great time. Tuesday, we went to the Pizza ranch with our nephew and Pizza Ranch sent me a nice birthday coupon for $5 off of supper. They have all kinds of good food and we had apple cactus bread for dessert. Kevin is a big eater. He had 5 pieces of that besides 3 plates of other foods. Yesterday we went to a homecooking restaurant and had lunch and had the best hot beef anywhere and homemade coconut cream pie. Yum Yum. My best friend bought our lunch and got me a huge bouquet of all colors of carnations in a vase and they are so pretty and smell so good. Tonight we are going for Mexican and tomorrow night we are meeting our daughter and her husband and they are buying supper at Carlos O'Kellys, another favorite restaurant of mine. My birthday isn't actually until Saturday and then we are going out for steaks. So I suppose next week, it better be some cutting back on food and lots more exercising :0)

Estelle Getty Dies at 84
Perhaps you won't recognize her name, but she was the old gal on the "Golden Girls". She really wasn't as old as she portrayed on the program but she did a good job of it. She tried for 40 years to get a staring role and finally got that one in l985 and she was good at it. I always got a kick out of her and Maude and the rest. They were funny. She will be missed by a lot of people I am sure. She will always be with us in re-runs though.

Knee Replacements for Women
I have had both my knees replaced. The last one was 5 years ago. At that time they just had different sizes of knee replacements. But now they have come out with a total knee replacement that is specifically shaped for women. This is the first and only knee replacement that is shaped to fit a woman's body. And we are fortunate in this area, to have the first orthopedic surgeons who are offering this Zimmer Gender Solutions Knee to women. They say it takes smaller incisions, shorter hospital stays and quicker recovery. I wish they could have had those new knee replacements when I had mine done.

Grand National Rally
Winnebago Industries has partnered up with the "Early Show" for the past three years. Dave Price, their weatherman has traveled all over the United States and Winnebago has given away a Winnebago each year. Now Dave Price came to Forest City to the big rally and visited with all the people there. He told them how much he had come to love traveling as they do, in a Winnebago. He also said each year Winnebago gave him a bigger and bigger Winnebago. They had a lot of fun visiting with Dave. I watch the "Early Show" every morning and have seen him on there many times traveling around in a Winnebago. I worked there 25 years and know what quality motorhomes they turn out.

Fair Time and BBQ
In our area, it is time for the Fair but there is going to be a very disappointed crowd. The carnival is not going to be there. They double booked according to the news and what will the young people do? That is the big draw with all the junk foods and stands to play games and ride the rides till all hours? I think it is going to really hurt their crowd at the Fair. But at the same time, in one of the big parks, they are having a great BBQ. People come miles around to show off their BBQ skills with meats and more. The smells will be worth going for. The food is delicious and a real treat.
Medical Drug Reference Software
Everyone seems to have an iPhone, PDA or Blackberry these days. But what about doctors? You would probably be surprised to learn that your doctor is right up-to-date and has a PDA in his lab coat pocket, wouldn't you? Now he has the advantage of contacting this online website medical drug reference software for an absolutely free drug formulary and free software that he can use. It is often tough enough to prescribe medicines for various patients but with the proper help from equipment gotten through this company, they can be sure there will be no drug interactions. With many patients on a number of prescriptions, it is almost impossible otherwise to keep tract of these unless you are a pharmacist. If your doctor has a blackberry, they have recently introduced a drug reference for that too. It is important to check out the site for the latest information and devices if you are in the medical field.

Birthday
I have a birthday coming up in 2 weeks. We are planning to go to a restaurant that gives you your supper free on your birthday. We have done that every year and are going to do it again this year. We can both have a delicious filet steak supper and only have to pay for one. They have a really good steak there. My husband thinks they are the best around. I am looking forward to it.

Great Grandchildren
Just found out today that we will have another great grandchild coming. We have 3 girls and 2 boys now so maybe it will be an even 3 and 3. Will see when the time comes. It is exciting to see the new generation growing up. Time really flies by. One day you are having your own and the next day it seems like you are grandparents and then great grandparents. Time goes too fast!
Suppertime
Suppertime is rolling around again. I get spoiled after two nights eating out. Tonight I have to cook. Plan to make some triple berry muffins to go with supper. Pork chops, hash browns, and a vegetable and fruit and I am all set. I love the packages of quick muffins and I got some muffin pan liners that you just throw in the dish washer and re-use over and over. They are neat as the muffins don't stick to them. They pop right out but you have to be careful because they are really hot!

Lettuce
I just read a consumer report on the bagged lettuce we buy from the grocery store. I like the kind with various types of lettuce, carrots, etc in them. You just dump them in the bowl and put salad dressing on them and you are ready to eat. BUT, I am sure everyone notices how quickly they spoil. They should be good till the sell by date but good luck if you get a couple of days out of them. They tested 62 bags of all kinds and the reports weren't good. I guess I will stick to buying head lettuce because then I know it isn't gooey and icky in a couple days. I love a good crunchy lettuce salad but I seem to be throwing money away on the beautiful bagged lettuce. How about you?

English Movies
We just love to watch the English movies. They are so funny and they have ways of saying things so differently than we do. Instead of saying "come on in", they will say "go through". And I like the American joke about it being too bad the English don't speak our language. It almost seems true because sometimes it is so hard to understand what they are saying. They are very enjoyable though. There was one on the war this week and my husband really likes those especially.
Heat Wave
We are having a heat wave. It is almost 100 and it is extremely hot. July is a hot month of the year but this has both extremes of cold and heat. First it is hot, then the nights are as cold as fall. It is really rather weird. I don't think the grass knows whether to grow or not but at least it isn't all dried up. It is a pretty green since we had a good rain the other day and probably another tomorrow. I love this time of the year when the grocery store is full of fresh fruit, plums, nectarines, apples, almost any fruit including melons. Love them.

Tony Snow, Dead of Colon Cancer
Tony snow died today after a valiant fight with colon cancer. It was first found in 2005 and he had that part of his colon removed. Because his other died of colon cancer, he was always diligent in having colonoscopies to make sure that he was alright. But they found the cancer, treated him and he went back to work with his big smile. But the cancer spread to his liver and as Press Secretary for the President, he was forced to resign due to his health problems.
Duesey Days
It is Duesey Days in our little town today. This is the home of the men who invented the Duesenburg Automobile. Their little shop was on main street for many years until just a few years ago, it got so old and bad, they had to tear it down. But every year they still have a celebration with a parade this morning and family fun in the park for all. Lots of things for the kids to do and lots of food to eat including turkey legs and funnel cakes. There are many activities including crowning the little Duesey Day Queen last night. I don't think those running for it are more than about 8 years old. She will ride in the Parade this morning as Royalty. It is cloudy now but it should clear up, we hope.

Cat Sitter
I am a bonafide cat sitter for the next week. Our neighbors have two cats. They are going to Branson for a week. I will be going over to feed them twice a day and make sure their automatic litter box is working ok. Also will be checking the waterer for them to be sure they have enough water. Sometimes they spit up a hair ball too and pick that up off the carpet so it doesn't stain. I't's not a hard job and when we are gone, they see to it our little dog, Holly, gets let out in time to do her duties outside too.
Humidity
I hate humidity. They say that in our State the humidity comes from the corn crop and we have plenty of that. It is supposed to get probably 90 degrees or more and probably that much humidity. I just hate it. We mowed the lawn yesterday and it was bad enough then, in the early morning. But this morning, it was already over 70. Now they are predicting high winds later and probably severe storms. I don't know why we can't have hot weather without always suffering with storms afterwards. I bet you can hear the corn growing at night now in this heat. My husband says he has heard it when he was young on the farm. Just before they went to sleep, they could hear the crackling in the corn fields as the corn grew. Isn't that really something? I would like to hear it too once.

Oh Christmas Tree - Oh Christmas Tree
There's a song that starts something like that isn't there? I am sitting here looking at our little 3-4 ft fiber optic Christmas tree. I have it sitting here on the desk and haven't decided whether to throw a plastic bag over it and leave it there. It really isn't in the way. Or try and pack it back in the box, which could be a real challenge. I could even plug it in now and then and brighten up my day. It seems a great many people today have a skinny fake evergreen tree in their family room or some room of the house and decorate it according to the seasons. We just saw one in Radiology at the hospital the other day decorated with 4th of July flags, etc. Kind of fun, don't you think?

A Healthy Lawn
The way to keep your lawn healthy in hot dry summer is to not mow it so short. Sometimes, I think people feel if they mow it short enough, they just won't have to do it as often. Well they are partially correct because it dries up when the rains stop and turns brown and you don't have to mow. Our neighbor leaves his at least 3 inches long and he says he has to mow more often but his is the only green lawn on the block. I haven't been able to convince my husband yet that is the correct way to mow the lawn. He still mows it too short.
Christie Brinkley and Husband Need Therapy
A court appointed psychiatrist said Tuesday that Christie Brinkley and her husband both need therapy. Christie should get custody of her two youngest children but Dr. Stephen Herman, who was questioned by the children's attorney, feels the couple needs therapy. She needs an outlet for her anger and feeling of betrayal by her unfaithful husband. She has been married four times and also needs to work on deeper issues, including her choice of male figures according to the psychiatrist. She was a former Sports Illustrated model.

Factory Orders See a Gain in May
Orders to U.S. factories turned in the slowest performance in three months in May. This was due to a surge in demand for commercial aircraft not being enough to offset the weakness in autos, heavy machinery and steel. In May though, factory orders rose by 0.6 percent. That was less than half the gains turned in during April and March. It was the poorest showing since factory orders had fallen by 0.4 percent in February. The figures for the past three months, according to analysts, have been inflated by big increases in the costs of refined petroleum and related products such as chemicals. Those have been soaring because of the rising cost of global oil prices.
Phentermine No Prescription
I took Phentermine for about 4 years and it helped me take off weight and keep it off. However, the doctor felt I had been on it long enough and he took me off of it and I have not been on it since. It has been proven to be very effective and Phentermine no prescription can be checked out at this website to see just how safe it is for almost everyone. Pregnant women and a few others should not take it but there are very few side effects. If taken too late in the day, it may keep you up at night though. It is best to check it out thoroughly and ask your doctor if it is the weight loss drug for you.
NBC Universal Deal to Buy Weather Channel
Two partners and NBC Universal said on Sunday that they have reached a deal to buy The Weather Channel. That has got to be one of my most favorite channels. I am always turning it on every time my husband leaves the room. Landmark Communications Inc. owns it now. This has been a drawn out process that had attracted interest from several major media companies. Someone said the purchase price was $3.5 billion in cash. Today everything seems to be in billions rather than millions. A million doesn't seem like much these days. I guess that in addition to The Weather Channel, the deal also includes several related assets such as weather services for newspapers and radio stations and the widely used Web site Weather.com. The Weather Channel can be seen by 97 percent of U.S. cable subscribers and we have always had satellite and watch it on there. Now there is a great HD channel of weather too.

Microsoft Seeks Help For Yahoo Bid
It seems Microsoft has been unable to strike a deal on its own so they are hoping to snap up Yahoo's online search operations with the help of News Corp. and Time Warner Inc. This latest happening caused Yahoo's stock to rise more than 3 percent in Wednesday's sinking market even though there is only a remote chance of getting the deal. Does it seem to you that a great deal of large companies are trying to buy up more and more companies. Is someone watching to be sure they don't turn into monopolies which I thought were illegal. Investors in Yahoo aren't happy with the way their Chief Executive Jerry Yang is planning things. He has been there 14 years and unless something happens before the annual meeting Aug. 1, he could lose his job. Yahoo is vulnerable and Microsoft is working on that. Microsoft has been stalking Yahoo for as far back as 2006. Yahoo hasn't heard another formal proposal since June 8.

Our dog Holly
Little Holly has been following me around all day. She is always hoping I have something to eat and will share it with her. I know it isn't good to give a dog "people" food but we sometimes do. This morning she wasn't feeling the best and I had to give her a spoonful of Maalox. Yes, just like people, it works on dogs too. She was feeling much better in no time. Now she is ready for bed and letting me know it so guess I will so along with her.
Textbooks
It will soon be time to return back to school and that means textbooks, doesn't it? You can go online and get textbooks of any kind at this website. Not only that, but you can shop for new or used textbooks and save money here. All you have to do is put in the ISBN, author or title and do a search and it will bring up the books you are looking for. This is a great site for college students to get ready for school with their textbooks.
Pella Pan
I love having some new pots and pans and mine are ready for recycling. I found this online website with pella pan that are absolutely beautiful and very useful and unique, as well. I would just love to have a new set of Terra Cotta cookware but they also have so many perfect paella pans. They come in non-stick, copper, stainless steel and several other metals and colors. They are all so perfect for preparing delectable Spanish dishes. This company brings a true culinary experience to your home. They also have some lovely hand painted ceramic tableware that will catch your eye as it did mine.
Mattresses
How often do you flip your mattress. Probably not often enough. I know I don't as it is such a big job. The last time we flipped the big pillow top mattress I hurt my arm. I guess I bent it a way it doesn't go. I had the wrist fused and hand repaired with new bones about a year ago already. It really works good and as you can see I really type well with it. Sure glad I had it fixed as it was going to sleep all the time and hurting. You also need to turn your mattress around so the head is at the foot and so forth.
Laundry Day
It is laundry day and we are on our second load. My husband really is a great help when I am working here on the computer. He folded all the towels and put everything away for me. Then he put the next load of permanent press clothes in the dryer. Now we will be all set over the Holiday weekend. We plan on going to Fireworks with our new folding chairs Friday night and then on Saturday we have a big picnic. Sunday our church is having a special program to commemorate Independence Day. It will be a fun weekend and the weather is supposed to be just great with cooler night. We'll take a jacket along and enjoy it all.
Midwest Auto Recycling
When your car breaks down and the engine goes, then what can you do. You are in big trouble as you have no transportation to get to work and no work, no pay, no groceries, rent etc. You need to an engine that is reliable and you need to do it as quickly as you can. Now you can go to this online website midwest auto recycling and tell them just what you need and there is a good chance they will have it in inventory. If it should happen that they don't have it, they are updating their inventory daily so you probably won't have long to wait. And it would be worth it as they have a great warranty plan and all their engines are CARFAX verified. You can call them toll-free and find out quickly. Check out their 3 year warranty plan too on parts and labor on most engines.
Bee Crisis - Higher Food Prices
The mysterious decline in honey bees could cause food prices to rise even more unless they find out the cause and turn it around. Where there are no bees, there are no crops, one North Carolina grower said. He has already cut his cucumber acreage in half because of the lack of bees available to rent. So much depends on the honey bees. About three quarters of flowering plants rely on birds, bees and other pollinators to help them reproduce. Bee pollination is responsible for $15 billion annually in crop value and that is a great deal! Beekeepers began reporting losing 30 percent to 90 percent of their hives in 2006. This is not a joke. It is very serious. They are calling it Colony Collapse Disorder.
Wesley Snipes
Wesley Snipes is asking to leave the U.S. to work on films. Lawyers for him are asking a Florida judge to let the 45 year old actor leave the country while they appeal his three federal tax convictions. He wants to work on two films "Gallowwalker" and "Chasing the Dragon" in London and in Bangkok, Thailand. The first movie is scheduled to begin July 14 and the other in September. In April, he was sentenced to three years in prison on three misdemeanor counts of willful failure to file his income tax returns. He hasn't filed a return since l998.
Airsoft Pistols
You have been having a great deal of fun playing paintball. And you know you can get all the great paintball supplies at this online website. They have a complete line of everything you need, guns, goggles, hats, hoodies and a great deal more. But now they have expanded to carry airsoft pistols along with Airsoft accessories. Not only can you pick up the pistol you are looking for but they have shutguns, as well. In addition, they have clearance items and you will want to check those out. They may be just what you are looking for and want to save even more. You can give them a call on their toll-free number and place your order and they will ship it FedEx ground the very same day. And they are always at hand to answer your questions.

Ulan Bator, Mongolia - Elections
There were parliamentary elections on Sunday in Mongolia. Mongolians endured long lines in order to vote in these elections. Two major parties campaigned on pledges to share more of the country's natural wealth with the mostly poor public. There were more than 350 candidates from 12 parties and one coalition that were running for 76 seats in the State Great Khural.
Army and Police Battle Rebels
The Army and the Police battled rebels and 11 died during the battle. The police station was attacked by communist guerrillas. They burned a cellular phone transmission tower in the southern Philippines. This sparked clashes with government forces that killed at least 11 people according to an army official on Sunday. Doesn't it just seem like there is fighting in so many places all over the world? It doesn't look like there will never be peace in many places.

Isn't it fun to shop on the Internet? And if you are into collectibles, then you will surely be especially interested in checking out this website for presidential coins. Pentagon Says Lithuania Would be a Good Missile Base Site
Tuesday the Pentagon said that Lithuania would be a good alternative to Poland as the site for a U.S. missile defense base if negotiations with the Poles fail. The Bush administration's preference is to work out a deal with fellow NATO ally Poland. The negotiations over a base that would host 10 U.S. missile interceptors has bogged down in a dispute over the extent of U.S. assistance to the Polish military.
Iraq Progress is Satisfactory
It doesn't really matter who is elected President in November, That is because whoever it is will have his policy team dealing with one of the most frustrating realities in Iraq. That is the slow pace that their government in Baghdad operates. Vital to U.S. interests is Iraq's political and military success. This will depend on whether the troops stay or go. Measurable progress has been made by the Iraqi government in recent months but the pace is so achingly slow. The White House sees the progress in a particularly positive light declaring that Iraq's efforts on 15 of 18 benchmarks are satisfactory. That is almost twice what it was a year ago.
Djembe Drums
There is a new line of Pro African X8 djembe drums out. They are such beautifully handcrafted drums and accessories that you can find anywhere. Their online website djembe drums shows you many of these beautiful djembe drums. They ship them overseas and are beginning to work with retail stores in the United States, as well. Anyone who is interested in djembe drums would be very excited to be able to purchase one, whether they are an expert or just beginning to learn to play. They are the most lovely drums and they are made of the finest materials. The Mahogany is Government inspected and the companies they use to supply them are eco-friendly companies. They make sure of that. They carry a 30 day guarantee as well. If you are not happy with the sound or craftsmanship of your drum you can return it and you will get a full refund minus the shipping charges.
Wild Fires in California
Heat lightning has caused over a thousand wild fires in Northern California. It is taking many firefighters battling them and they are no where near being under control. Not only that but forecasters say dangerous conditions would not let up anytime soon. By Sunday morning, fortunately, no new major fires had broken out. The fire crew inched closer to getting some of the largest blazes surrounded. Last we saw on TV, Big Sur was in a great deal of danger. Many homes have burned and I am sure many people have evacuated. There is nothing you can do about lightning and they were expecting more of the same kind of storms. It is indeed very serious.
Salmonella Probe Adds More Fresh Produce
As it it wasn't bad enough to hit all the tomato farmers with this, now the government is about to start testing many other types of fresh produce. They are hunting for the source of the nation's record salmonella outbreak. They are keeping quiet on what other vegetables are getting checked. We in Iowa are eating all kinds of tomatoes and no one has gotten sick. We raise a lot of them in small gardens around here and it is quite hard for us to believe there is a problem with the tomatoes. We feel very sorry for those farmers whose living is dependent on their crop of tomatoes.
Wedding Favor Ideas
There are so many different wedding favors that it can be mind boggling. Let this online website wedding favor ideas help you with this. They have top notch wedding supplies and novelty items of all kinds. Wedding cameras have become very popular and to put one on each table and have the guests take pictures, gives the bride and groom a whole new set of photos of their wedding that they would not get otherwise from the photographer. Also the gifts for the attendants are something you can find here also and have them personalized to make them extra special. They have so much more to offer at the best prices, you just need to check them out. I feel you will be delighted with all the choices you have.
Shopping
You either like shopping or you do not like shopping. There seems to be no inbetween. My husband does not like to shop unless we are out to buy something for him. Otherwise, he doesn't care to go. I do get him into the grocery store now and then but rarely. He told me he needs a new pair of flip flops. His are getting pretty worn so I suppose we will need to do that. We have a discount store here in our little town that may have some. If not, we will have to go to a bigger town to Wal-Mart I supposed.
