Beautiful Weather

Yesterday was the most beautiful Fall day. It was very sunny and there was no wind. That made it a very comfortable day. The grass is still green. The farmers can still bring in the crops. The elevators are working overtime with all the corn coming in. The neighbors put up their Christmas lights and we are really enjoying them.

Thanksgiving Day

Tomorrow is the big day everyone looks forward to a great big meal. I hope they all stop for a minute and give thanks for all they have been blessed with this year. Even the people with less to eat have the food banks and free soup kitchens to be thankful for. Toys for Tots is working again this year to see that many children get toys that would not get anything without their help. It is a great organization.

Banks and the Financial Market

All we've heard about for weeks is the bank bailouts. I do not believe any banks were going broke but that is my opinion. They are making money hand over fist off their customers, building branches everywhere. But according to the news I read that the apparent end of the recession and stabilizing financial markets have not cured the banking industry. The say past due loans have reached the highest levels in 26 years according to the FDIC. They say banks earned $2.8 billion in the 3d quarter, but nearly 40 percent of that was from a one-time accounting trick. Loan balances plummeted and the fund that insures their deposits was $8.2 billion in the red. According to the FDIC, the number of banks on their problem list went up to 552 from 416 on June 30. This is the highest level in 16 years. Fifty banks failed during the quarter, the largest number since the second quarter of l990. I am not sure how much of anything to believe anymore.

For $483 million dollars, Sprint Nextel Corporation acquired Virgin Mobil USA. This boosts their presence in the market for customers who pay for cell phone service month to month. This acquisition was announced in July and Tuesday Virgin Mobil shareholders voted in favor of the acquisition. This pays them $5.80 in Sprint stock for each Virgin Mobile share. The deal also retires approximately $223 million of their debt. They offer service to 5.2 million subscribers at present, so that really ads to Sprint.

Banana Cream Pie

I couldn't wait till Thanksgiving to have pie so I made a banana cream pie last night. It has a graham cracker crust and buried it in cool whip. It is delicious. We had some for supper last night. Also had some for lunch today. I am sure it will disappear by tomorrow if not sooner :0. However, we just HAVE to have pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. Yum!

What is it?

What is the new baby going to be? A boy or a girl? The parents didn't want to know in advance so they are in for a happy surprise. The grandparents and great grandparents are eagerly waiting for the news too. It is more fun not to know and to be surprised, I think. We have 2 more coming in the next couple weeks and we know they are going to be boys so that takes the surprise out of those. But they are all blessings.

It's a Birthday Circus!!

Our little great grandson had his 2nd birthday last week. His Mom is very talented and she did his party up in a complete circus theme. Everyone had a wonderful time. I wish we could have been there too. The food looked delicious as you can see here. Emry had a great time and a neat cake. Now he is waiting for his little brother to arrive next month. How exciting!!

He's Two Years Old

Look who is two years old. His birthday was Friday the 13th. That was a lucky day for him. He got to blow out some candles for his birthday and then had a big party at home on Saturday. I wish we could have gone but I had to be at a baby shower for another great grandchild that is on the way. Emry is the cutest little boy with the cutest expressions. It is so much fun to watch him discover new things.

Today is Friday the 13th and a lucky and blessed day for little Emry. He is 2 years old today and just caught up with his first cousin, Kaelyn who turned 2 Nov. 1. They are quite a pair. Emry has so many cute facial expressions. He's such a neat little boy and so much fun. He really loves to eat and isn't picky either. Give him food and he is happy.

Mexican Lasagna

I made a big pan of Mexican Lasagna yesterday. We had some of the leftovers tonight and the flavors were even better than last night. It is a family favorite and I have taken it to family reunions and brought home an empty pan every time. I love making hot dishes but sometimes it is hard to cut down the recipe for 2 people so you don't have to eat it for a week. When it gets cold, hot soup and hot casseroles really taste especially good and the oven heats the house even more too.

It is getting to be that time of the year again. We are beginning to count down the days on the calendar toward Christmas. And besides gifts for family, what about gifts for her? Happy Birthday

Yesterday, our little great granddaughter turned 2 years old. I remember when our oldest turned 2. Her dad got her the first tricycle and teddy bear she ever had. We have pictures of her on the tricycle and she was excited. It is fun to see how excited they get. When they reach 2, they can really appreciate opening gifts more and Christmas will really be fun for her.
