Rain

We are having lots of rain today. It is always good to get the Spring rains to settle the earth. It is getting rid of the snow that has turned to ice. The yard is a mess and I have to figure out a way to get it cleaned up. The neighbors leaves all blew onto my yard. They are everywhere and very thick. It's nice to have Spring finally.

Cabin Fever

That's what we Midwesterners call staying inside day after day due to terrible winter weather. We had 2 blizzards in the same week. Everyone is wondering where to put the snow. Our landlord has both a blade to blade off the snow and a snow blower to get it farther out as he is running out of space to put the snow. It is 2 weeks till Spring and everyone is counting down. It is finally lighter in the morning and light longer at night and we like that. This weekend we turn out clocks ahead an hour for daylight savings time. If you forget, you will be late for church :0)

Fun in the Sun

We are finally having summer.  After a long cold, wet Spring, it is finally summer.  Has been up to the 90's which is a little too warm for me.  And the humidity has been very high too.  That really makes it uncomfortable.  However, the kids love it.  Here is one of my great granddaughters having a great time outside.

Iowa Where the Tall Corn Grows

This year the crops are ahead. The farmers were able to get in the fields sooner due to a great Winter and good Spring. It is always amazing somehow, to see the little rows of corn and beans coming up. The weather was so beautiful that they got lots of sunshine and just the right rains to help them along. Some fields are totally green already and I know that is early. They should have a good crop this year if we don't get any hail or really bad weather.

March

March is coming in like a lion so I just hope it goes out like a lamb. We have had every kind of weather since yesterday. Corn snow as the Norwegians call it, rain, sleet, snow, thunder with rain, freezing rain. You name it, we got it. Supposed to get a little more snow overnight tomorrow night. Been snowing all afternoon but ground is warm so melts on sidewalks and roads. However, tonight all that liquid is going to freeze and be slick I bet.

Is Spring Getting Closer?

They say this is the 2nd warmest winter we have ever had. Another report says it is the 4th warmest winter. No matter what it is, we love it. We have only had what I would count as 3 snows, about one per month since December. One was 7", another was about the same and the February one was only about 2-3". The temperatures have been running above freezing most of the winter and right now snow is melting again today with 35 degrees headed for 40 degrees today.

Winter?

You almost have to pinch yourself to see if you are dreaming. We live in Iowa, the land of snow and ice and high winds in the winter. Lots of shoveling, snow moving, and freezing weather. But so far this weather is almost like early Spring. We have no snow at all and the temperatures have been in the 40's a great deal of the time. It is already 31 degrees and headed for the 40's again. Believe me, I am not complaining. It means that after this week, we will have about 2 1/2 months of winter behind us and without snow and below zero temperatures, we absolutely love it. I know it's bad for the snowmobilers and people who move snow are hurting for income but we just have to enjoy it while we can because we know it isn't going to last until Spring.

Is This Spring or Not?

My gosh, yesterday it was warm and beautiful. There was hardly any wind until later in the day. Our neighbors put up a tent like gazebo and were enjoying it immensely and then they had to take it down because the wind came up so strong. Not only that but the temperature started dropping and it was down right cold last night and it is only 49 degrees today at 4:10 pm CST. I saw some rain drops on the window just a bit ago and they are talking a few snow flakes. I went to the grocery store and got out my gloves (that I had put away) and my warmer jacket and it felt very good. I wish the weather would make up its mind.

Spring has Sprung

It is finally beginning to look like Spring. Our tulips are coming up fast now. We put little flags out to keep the rabbits from eating off the tender tops before they can get a chance to grow up. I just saw a Robin out the window finally. I have seen them in the neighbor's yards half a block away but they are getting closer. We have the finch feeder out now and anxious to see the Goldfinch return. It is too early for the Hummingbirds and I am afraid the water in the feeder will freeze this early in the year. We had a heavy frost the last couple of mornings.

Spring is Getting Closer

Spring is getting closer. We have gone about 10 days with degrees in the 20's and 30. Snow is beginning to go down slowly. There are going to be a lot of ice piles that will take awhile to get rid of. The slower it melts, the less flooding there will be. We don't have to worry about it where we live but lots of others do. So we do hope it will melt slowly and not snow anymore.

Can you believe it? It is a week into Spring, the Robins have returned and today we had about an hour of the biggest snowflakes we have seen in awhile. One thing about it, the ground is warmer now and it melted as fast as it fell but it sure looked like a little blizzard for a bit. Poor North Dakota and South Dakota too. Not only do they had lots of snow but now the Red River is flooding big time. It is just terrible to see it on the news.
