Cold Snap Hurts Fruit Growers

This cold weather we are having is reaching throughout the United States putting many crops in danger. Last year, alot of the apple crop was lost due to the cold and now the peach crop is looking bad this week. First, we had temperatures in the 70's and then they crashed down to freezing and not just in the south as we usually think. Those fruit trees that are in the delicate stage of blossom are especially vulnerable. The cold has already damaged grapevines in vineyards in Nebraska. Apple trees are two weeks ahead of schedule in Virginia and they are worried. Last year's California freeze earlier this year caused an estimated $280 million in citrus losses.
