Bill Assists Some Graduates
There are an estimated 50,000 undocumented students in U. S. colleges today. They would be among the ones who would benefit from a part of an immigration bill that the Senate will work on this week.Mariana, age 23 is one of those students. She is finishing up her undergraduate degree at the University of california, Los angeles., and has been accepted to a master's program at Harvard University's education school. Her life is not so simple, however. she insists her first name only, be published because she is illegally in the United states and does not want to be deported to her home in Guatemala. She is worrying about how she will pay her tuition and what kind of work she will get after she is finished with school. Without a work permit, how does she use her degree? This bill may help her that is planned to go through the Senate this week.
