Are Pit Bulls Dangerous?

Are pit bulls really any more dangerous than some other breeds of dogs? My grandson has one and he says it wouldn't hurt anyone? Is it the way they are treated as they are growing up? A 17 ear old girl was attacked Monday by a pit bull a bitten in the face and neck and is in the hospital in fair condition. This town is trying to get them outlawed altogether. I think they may get it done, because this hasn't been the first attack in this town. A couple of other pit bulls had to be euthanized due to attacks. One mailman was bitten also.
