King Sued by Iowa Promoter

Professional boxing promoter Don King is being sued by a central Iowa fight promoter. The lawsuit, filed Aug 3 in federal court in Des Moines by Des Moines-based Capital Promotions, claims that King interfered with an agreement between Capital and its co-owner Paul Sciezinski and boxer Tye Fields. Fields played semiprofessional basketball for the now-defunct Des Moines Dragons but quit to become a boxer. He now is based in Las Vegas and represented by Top Rank, another boxing promotions company. The lawsuit said Capital Promotions, through Sciezinski, entered into a promotional rights agreement on Feb 4, 2000, in which Capital agreed to promote Fields and further his career as a boxer. It says King was aware of the contractual relationship and interfered with that relationship beginning in 2004, causing the contract to be prematurely terminated. The suit exceeds $75,000 in damages, etc.
