Remember "the day the music died", when the plane went down and Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper were killed? That happened right here in our area in February. Every year the Surf Ballroom has a big celebration and brings back as many of the old groups and singers who were there that night. I believe it will be 50 years ago next month on February 3.
Last year, they exhumed the Big Bopper and did an autopsy to be sure the plane crash injuries were what killed him. It was just that. But now the story is that his son has the old casket and he is going to auction it off on eBay and see if he can sell it. He wants to put on a music show to help preserve the memory of his dad. He was born 3 months after his dad died so he never knew him at all. Anyone out there want to buy a casket, a piece of history?
Well now it turns out that someone just got that story started and it took off like wildfire. He wouldn't mind selling it, however, if it could be put on display in a rock 'n roll museum or have a statue erected to preserve the memory of his dad, he said. He would sell it for that purpose but not on eBay.
