Ulan Bator, Mongolia - Elections

There were parliamentary elections on Sunday in Mongolia. Mongolians endured long lines in order to vote in these elections. Two major parties campaigned on pledges to share more of the country's natural wealth with the mostly poor public. There were more than 350 candidates from 12 parties and one coalition that were running for 76 seats in the State Great Khural.

Togo Votes iin Landmark Election

The West African state of Togo is holding its first parliamentary elections since the death of their ruler who was in power for 38 years. The main opposition parties are all taking part, having boycotted polls for nearly two decades. Reports say there have been delays and long queues at some poling stations. If the elections go smoothly, analysts say donors could restore aid that has been cut off for 15 years in response to human rights abuses and misrule.

Kazakhs Elect Changed Parliament

People in Kazakhstan are voting in parliamentary elections which their President hopes will improve his country's democratic credentials. He called the poll two years early to introduce a series of constitutional changes which expand parliament and introduce proportional representation. The country's state-controlled media has already hailed this vote as a landmark election. The changes would allow Mr. Nazarbayev to run for office as often as he wants.
