Lights Out
We were at the hospital Clinic today when all of a sudden all the lights went out. It was pitch black in the doctor's room we were in. They said all the lights went out in half the town. Surgery was going on and they had to finish by flash light. It was off about 15 minutes. That is when the cell phone really came in handy. By turning it on, we were able to see to get down the hall to the restrooms, etc. It was a new experience, that is for sure.

Substation Causes Cascading Lights Out in Florida
A relatively minor glitch in Florida's electrical grid somehow triggered a chain reaction Tuesday that caused a nuclear plant to shut down and briefly cut power in patches from Daytona Beach through the Florida Keys. Up to 3 million people, about one fifth of Florida's population lost power at various points during the afternoon, though there were no safety concerns at the nuclear plant. And while many areas were hit hard, the outages were short lived and only about 20,000 people lacked electricity during the evening commute home.

Lights Out Australia
Much of Australia's largest city, Sidney, switched off the lights to register concern about global warming. The arch of Sydney's other iconic structure, the harbor bridge, was also blacked out, along with dozens of sky-scrapers and countless homes in the 4 million + city. This was an hour long gesture that organizers said they hoped would be adopted as an annual event by cities around the world. They shut down all nonessential lights on city-owned buildings asking people to think about what action they can take to fight global warming. Restaurants throughout the city held candlelit dinners, and families gathered in public places to take part in a countdown to lights out, sending up a cheer as lights started blinkikng off at 7:30 p.m.

Here we go again!
Storm warnings have been posted for today and for the next couple of days. More freezing rain and lots of snow. Making snowmen days are going to be over as it will be so much colder again. We are praying the lights don't go out again like they did last weekend. It got pretty cold. Alot of folks had to leave their homes and go to Motels to get warm. We were blessed in that our lights came back on after six hours and stayed on. The next day they were out for an hour and we were gone today and when we came home, some of the clocks were blinking at me again. I don't think they were off too long though as the VCR still had it's programming. They were probably making permanent repairs to the quick temporary ones they did on Saturday. Well like my husband always says, "just look out the window and you will see what the weather is" and you know, that is usually more accurate than the local weatherman.
