CBS and MSNBC Suspend Imus

CBS and MSNBC have decided to suspend Imus for two weeks beginning Monday. There was a large protest growing over his reference last week to members of the Rutgers women's basketball team as "nappy-headed hos". Imus expressed regret and embarrassment over what he had said and stated dedication to changing the show's discourse. This made them believe that suspension was an appropriate response to the happening. Imus' future is contingent on his ability to live up to his word according to the network. Imus has made a career of cranky insults in the morning and fighting for his job after the joke, that by his own admission, went way too far. He continued to apologize both on his show and the syndicated radio program hosted by the Rev. Al Sharpton. Sharpton is among several black leaders demanding his firing. If advertisers shy away from him, he could be in real trouble. He is ranked 14th most influential, but his audience is heavy on the political and media elite that advertisers pay a premium to reach.
