Deaths in Town
Another well-known woman has died of cancer at age 70 in our town. Her name was Betty Sankey and she was a bubbling, smiling person who worked part-time in nearly every business in town. Last time I saw her, she was passing out samples of something in the local grocery store. She fought a hard fight the past two years making alot of of trips to Iowa City and they thought they had it whipped for awhile but it came back with a vengeance and now her funeral is tomorrow.

Trip to Home Town
We took a trip to our home town today to go to the funeral of a 90 year old uncle. He was a wonderful Christian man and his funeral was a testimony of that. It was held in a big E-Free church and the pastor had a great sermon. There was a big crowd for someone that old. Usually they are small funerals when you reach that age. They had a wonderful homemade buffet luncheon after and everyone could visit.

Funeral on Saturday
My uncle died this week. He was 90 and I always had a good time with him when we were younger. We used to go out to his farm with my cousins, his 2 daughters, and wade in this little stream that had the coldest water. It was so much fun in the hot summer. We would catch little tadpoles. For anyone who doesn't know what they are, they are grow up to be frogs. We always looked forward to playing in the water there and had such a good time.

Lady Bird Johnson Funeral
Over 1800 people attended the funeral of Lady Bird Johnson. Among the crowd were former presidents and fellow first ladies. Two huge floral displays were at the front of the sanctuary and were made up of flowers, including wildflowers and blooms from the gardens of friends of the first lady who was an environmentalist. Several members of the family spoke at her funeral along with TV host Bill Moyers, a former press secretary for President Johnson.

Funeral
We have to go to the funeral of my brother-in-law early this morning as it is a ways to drive. Our daughter is going to ride along with us. We will be staying after to eat in the Bethany Hall before coming home. That will give us a time of visiting with relatives too. It is almost like a family reunion, sometimes better. It's supposed to be good weather yet so we are lucky there. We have a one day window between bad storms it seems. Will be tired when we get home. Having the neighbor let our little dog out to go potty. She is a very good neighbor.
