Freezing Rain
We had some freezing rain last night. I am so glad it wasn't a lot because I walk onto my deck to get the newspaper. I could walk on the slick surface without worrying about falling. A few miles east and south of us they really got a lot. It make for very dangerous driving this time of the year, Next we are to get some snow today and then tomorrow night into Sunday. It sounds like a lot will go North of us and hope that is the case. Most of the big storms have gone around us. We are blessed.

Black Friday
Black Friday is here. It is almost unbelievable how people will fight over a $1.98 item that they could probably get for the same price in a couple of days without all the hassle. I watched people on TV tearing apart things to get them. Here, some set up tents on Thanksgiving all night and froze just to get something that probably will still be on sale in a day or two. People have told me they have seen half pallets of TV's just sitting on the floor days after the Black Friday rush. My daughter was telling me how she got caught in a big rush and almost knocked down. If it hadn't been for her tall grown son protecting her, she probably would have been knocked to the floor and trampled, all for cheap DVD's. Is it any wonder more and more people are shopping in the comfort of their homes online?

Trees
Trees are great to have around your house for shade. However, we had one tree by our garage that was a cottonwood tree. It did not have deep roots and was growing extra tall. With the wind in our State, everyone began to worry that it would break off and fall on our garage and house and perhaps even kill someone inside in so doing. They came yesterday with equipment an cut it down and hauled it away in no time at all. It is a relief to have it out of the way even though we love trees. It wasn't in a place to give us any good shade either and in the Spring it spread cottonwood seeds like cotton all over everything and the little trees grew in every spot they landed. It was a nuisance.

Colleges Warn Students About Mexico Travel
Because drug violence and kidnapping are on the rise in some areas, the U.S. State Department and universities around the country are warning college students headed for Mexico for some Spring break and partying. There has been a surge in drug related murder and mayhem south of the border and they are not necessarily telling the students not to go, but they are alerting them to what is happening there.
It sounds like a very good idea to me for them to stay away from Mexico. It has been on the news quite a bit the last few days and I would not want my kids going there for spring break. There have been Americans kidnapped and they should be aware of that. More than 100,000 high school and college age Americans travel to Mexican resort areas during Spring break each year.
