Spring Weather

We are finally getting a taste of Spring weather. The snow is finally all melted away. The neighbors are cleaning up their yard and I asked them to rake the leaves off my flower bed. Now the tulips can come thru. I heard that even the flowers are hibernating longer so that is good. There was quite a lot of ice and snow over the flowers. It is good to see the snow gone at last. It was a very hard winter.

Rain

We are having lots of rain today. It is always good to get the Spring rains to settle the earth. It is getting rid of the snow that has turned to ice. The yard is a mess and I have to figure out a way to get it cleaned up. The neighbors leaves all blew onto my yard. They are everywhere and very thick. It's nice to have Spring finally.

Calendars

Just turned over all the calendars in the house.  Here it is March 1 and it is coming in like a Lion.  It seems sometimes like it snows every day.  I pushed the snow off the deck just before it began to snow again this morning.  I see 4 family birthdays on March 3 and 4th.  Have to get busy and send ecards.  It sounds like it isn't really going to start warming up any around here till mid March.  It is a good thing Easter is late this  year as people like to wear new clothes and not winter coats.  I keep a lightweight shovel in the house so I can shovel my way out onto the deck to get the newspaper.  It will be nice when I can put it back in the garage again till next winter.

Weather

This has been the worst winter in many years.  I have stayed in the house for days at a time due to snow and ice.  The ice is the worst.  I have seen young people falling down, thinking it was okay to jog.  It is supposed to warm up starting tomorrow.  It may even get above freezing by the weekend.  Of course, we have to have a little more snow tonight and again on Saturday.  There just seems to be no end to it.  I sure hope March comes in like a Lion and is nice and goes out like a Lamb.   We are going to appreciate Spring this year as never before in years.

Freezing Rain

We had some freezing rain last night.  I am so glad it wasn't a lot because I walk onto my deck to get the newspaper.  I could walk on the slick surface without worrying about falling. A few miles east and south of us they really got a lot.  It make for very dangerous driving this time of the year,  Next we are to get some snow today and then tomorrow night into Sunday.  It sounds like a lot will go North of us and hope that is the case.  Most of the big storms have gone around us.  We are blessed.

Wintertime

We have had a very long fall.  It seems like all the leaves on everyone's trees are in my yard.  They are about 6 inches deep.  I have never seen anything quite like it.  We have been having above normal temperatures but now it looks like it is going to change.  The temperatures are going to go down to wintertime temperatures.  They predict rain nearly every day this week.  But when it gets down in the teens I don't think it will be rain.  It is much more likely to be snow.  I am not looking forward to it. People are putting up their Christmas lights and many are turned on. It is so pretty.

Only in Iowa

Only in Iowa can you have totally different weather in two days.  As you can see here, one of my great grandsons is holding up the sign showing the date.  We really got the snow.  Very unusual for May.  Then when it finally quit, the sun came out and it melted fast, all 10 inches of it.  However, there are just a few little piles left out there that should be gone tomorrow.

Award

My grandson-in-law won an award for his work with his job.  He and his wife, my granddaughter, got to go to Scottsdale, Arizona.  There he received his award.  They got to enjoy some nice warm weather also.  That is a great way to get away from our cold and ice.  The grandparents took care of their 3 children but they missed them terribly.  I know they were so happy to get home and see their children again.  Since they got home we have had freezing rain, sleet and now snow and wind.  I bet they miss warm Arizona, at least just a little bit.

Daylight Savings Time

We are in the Winter of daylight savings time now.  It is so strange to get up and have it still be very dark outside.  The sun is up now though and although it is very cold, just seeing the sun seems to improve your moral.  Here it is the 2nd week of January already so we have winter half gone.  January and February can seem to feel like the longest months of the year.  They are usually snowy and very cold.  We're always happy when March comes as we know warmer weather can't be that far off.  Another thing we are happy about is that the days are getting longer now.

Neighbor's Little Papillon Dog

One of the neighbors has the cutest little Papllion.  He's got more hair than dog.  He feels like he weighs about 3 lbs.  He just loves the snow.  He will run and jump into piles of it.  You would think he would freeze but he just loves it.  In the Spring when most of the snow is gone, he will look for those last piles and run and jump into the snow.  He's the cutest little guy and loves to come and have me scratch his ears.

Snow for Christmas

In our part of the country, people love to see a White Christmas. We didn't have any snow in November but Saturday we really got a lot. I think it is here to stay now. It rained first. That caused ice to form on everything. Then it snowed somewhere between 5-8 inches and everything is white now. You have to be careful walking because there is ice along with the snow.

Getting Ready for More Snow

Got the driveway cleaned off. Tried to sweep the slush out of the garage. Have a drain in there that makes it handy to sweep melted snow water out of the garage. Car is covered with salt and dirt and needs washing badly. But it is supposed to snow some more tomorrow so what is the use? Have to wait.

High Wind Warnings

The weatherman is right again. We have started getting new snow about 2 hours ago. It is the light fluffy stuff because we have been below zero for over a week. Nights are still going to be that cold for 3 days or so. He promised us high winds tomorrow that are going to cause whiteout on the roads. This is very dangerous to all travelers. Some places are already not advising travel.

SNOW!

Here comes the snow. It snowed about an inch overnight and lightly for awhile today. Then it quit and the sun came out and melted all the roadways. We got our mail and it was quite nice out. Now it looks like big flakes and windy and when you look in the distance it looks like heavy fog.

April Fool

We had a bit of an April Fool's joke pulled on us yesterday. It was the weather. We got up to about an inch of fresh snow on April 1. It was below freezing but by noon, the snow was melted away. The wind continued to blow, however, quite strong. It has been blowing hard for the past couple of days but today it is finally calm. One thing they say about our weather here is that if you don't like it, wait a day, it will change.

Snow!!! Flooding

Can you believe it? It is a week into Spring, the Robins have returned and today we had about an hour of the biggest snowflakes we have seen in awhile. One thing about it, the ground is warmer now and it melted as fast as it fell but it sure looked like a little blizzard for a bit. Poor North Dakota and South Dakota too. Not only do they had lots of snow but now the Red River is flooding big time. It is just terrible to see it on the news.

Snow is on the Way

We got a little snow last night and now the wind is picking up. It was very cold last night. We turn down the furnace at night and when you hear it run several times in the night, you know it has gotten very cold. They said it would snow after midnight and it did. But it is just a very light coating and we are sure glad of that. There is plenty of time yet for snow this winter. We want a nice clear week for this week as Thanksgiving is Thursday and lots of people will be traveling to see their families. We hope for good clear roads and low winds for a decent winter day. We are looking forward to Thanksgiving. We have much to be thankful all year long.

Weather Report

The weather report is not too good today. We are getting heavy rain but that is not so bad. By this afternoon or tonight it is going to switch to snow. We don't want that. We are supposed to get 1-2 inches but it should melt quite fast as the ground is warm. There is a great deal of corn in the fields to be combined so we sure don't need any huge amounts of snow. I heard they are getting many inches of snow in South Dakota yesterday with over 60 mph winds. Now that is bad.

Snow Again

It is snowing again and that is just going to make it more slippery than ever because we have a lot of ice underneath. Now you can't see the ice but you will know it once you go flying through the air. My brother says he has fallen twice already and once right on his back and bumped the back of his head. Then he fell on his knees and they are in bad shape to start with so it sure didn't do them any good. I hope he stays in more and doesn't fall anymore. I think the ice melt companies are making a fortune already this winter.

Grocery Shopping

There is a storm coming so I headed for the grocery store and stocked up. I hadn't done that for quite some time so it was well overdue. We had a bit of snow last night and it made the freeways slippery, so they said. Guess some cars were spinning off the highway. Everyone needs to learn how to drive safely again in winter.
