Dogs and Diabetes
It can be quite a problem when your pet dog has diabetes. It is especially hard to check their blood sugar as you have to poke their paw and that hurts. Dogs get regular insulin shots and I had a neighbor who had a cat that was diabetic and she had to give her a shot every day too. I am glad that we have had many dogs in our lifetime and none had to have shots for diabetes. It is a good thing though they can be treated or their lives would be cut shorter.

Actos Lawsuit
Have you been taking an oral diabetes medicine called Actos? If so, you also may have encountered some serious side effects from this drug. Although approved by the FDA and over 500,000 prescriptions given out, tests have shown some heart attacks, increased bladder cancer and other serious side effects by patients. Now there is a Actos lawsuit in process. If you or anyone you know has suffered from the side effects of Actor, they will probably want to contact an experienced firm of attorneys to see if they have a case. I know I am happy I have not taken this drug.

Diabetes
Tomorrow is the day I go back to the dietitian in the next town and go over what I have been eating since Nov. 27. She wants to see if I understand carbs and if I am eating the right things. It is very hard to balance them out evenly when your largest meal is always at night. Breakfast and lunch are easy and a mexican meal out has been easy to figure too. But when you go somewhere else to a good restaurant, then you run into problems trying to keep the carbs down. It is a good thing they give you enough to eat so you are never hungry though and that sure makes a difference from any diet I have ever been on.

Smoking Raises Risk of Diabetes
Smoking is linked to a significantly increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, US research suggests. The University of Lausanne looked at 25 studies involving 1.2 million patients. They found smokers had a 44% increased risk of type 2 diabetes compared with non-smokers - with the risk rising with the number of cigarettes smoked. The Journal of the American Medical Association study found the increased risk for those who smoked at least 20 cigarettes a day rose to 61%. For lighter smokers the risk was 29% higher than for a non-smoker. The increased risk of developing diabetes in former smokers was 23%
Diabetes Linked To Cancer Risk
The factors that lead to diabetes may also put a person at increased risk of pancreatic cancer, research suggests. The US National Cancer Institute found high insulin levels and increased resistance to the hormone were associated with a higher cancer risk. They say their findings suggest adopting a healthy diet and lifestyle may help to reduce the risk of pancreatic cancer. The findings confirm previous studies which have linked type 2 diabetes to pancreatic cancer. The researchers say it is possible that insulin in higher than normal levels may trigger the growth of pancreatic cancer cells.
