Swimming Pools

They used to call them swimming pools. Now they are aquatic centers. However, they are just fantastic swimming pools after all. The kids love them and so do the adults. The neighbor has been on vacation this week. She has been taking their 4 kids to the pool almost every day. Today she told them they would only go for an hour and a half as it is just too hot. It's pretty bad when it is too hot to go in the swimming pool.

No Shade

It is almost 100 degrees in the shade and no shade. That's an old saying but the heat index today was a killer and it is still very hot. Running the A/C full blast and it can't keep it down to 80 in here. Today is the first full day of summer and it is really summer. We go from cold to hot in 24 hours around here. My husband says if you go out at night you will be able to hear the corn growing. It crackles. You can tell he's a farmer can't you?

Thunderstorms

We had 89 degrees today and it has been cool up until yesterday. This is too hot and causes severe thunderstorms to occur. We went to the next town about 20 miles away to eat and left all our windows open because it was stifling inside and our little dog, Holly, was panting even with fans running.

It began to rain as we finished eating and got into the car with rain drops the size of quarters. As we drove home, we got into heavier rain with the largest rain drops and by the time we got home it was dry. We didn't get any rain at all. We could really use it but I am glad it didn't rain in the windows and wet the carpet, etc. We always unplug the antenna too just in case of lightning because we have been hit in the past.
Holly has finally cooled off and cool breezes are now blowing through the house. It will be about 25 degrees cooler tomorrow and we are supposed to get rain Saturday and Sunday. Our flowers could use it.

Humidity

I hate humidity. They say that in our State the humidity comes from the corn crop and we have plenty of that. It is supposed to get probably 90 degrees or more and probably that much humidity. I just hate it. We mowed the lawn yesterday and it was bad enough then, in the early morning. But this morning, it was already over 70. Now they are predicting high winds later and probably severe storms. I don't know why we can't have hot weather without always suffering with storms afterwards. I bet you can hear the corn growing at night now in this heat. My husband says he has heard it when he was young on the farm. Just before they went to sleep, they could hear the crackling in the corn fields as the corn grew. Isn't that really something? I would like to hear it too once.

Summer Is Here

Wow! Just like that, summer set in and it is not officially summer until June 21st, I believe. The air conditioner is working overtime and I am so glad we have a good one. We also have ceiling fans in every room and the new one we got in here last week is really great! It really works good and keeps me cool and comfortable while I work. We ran to the store this morning for milk and found they have the main highway blocked off at the railroad tracks and the only way you can go east now is by old Highway 18 to Ventura. We have to go that way to the doctor's office tomorrow to have my hand xrayed. They need to check to be sure that all the bones they put in stayed in place. I had alot of ache Sunday and Monday but it is finally tapering off today.
